PWA : Future outlook, discussion, poll (eventually)

As everyone knows, WWE just did their brand split. As we begin to see how wwe handles everything goring forward, we wanted to bring up the discussion of possibly doing our own brand split.

We are still a few weeks out from a final decision, but wanted to open this up for discussion, and possibly starting this as soon as the week after summerslam, should the majority want to do this.

Ill add a poll to this thread later after we have had some discussion.

------

So...

If we do a brand split, how would we do it?

Show names:
Monday Thunder / Tuesday ?

Titles:
  • Floating World, Women’s and Tag titles - Both shows
  • IC / Pure* - Monday exclusive
  • Returning US / HC* - Tuesday Exclusive (HC would act the same way as the pure title)
*Note - IC/IS and Pure/HC can be on either show, just showing breakdown, but one for each show.

Title shots:
  • For the floating titles, these are awarded to a person/team who’s show gets the PPV/Special for that week. That most likely means up to 2 defenses a month. Rematch clauses still are in effect, even across promotions. (Champs able to wrestle on the opposing show’s regular weeks? If so, will it affect overness?)
    • one restriction to this: if your character is holding one of these floating titles, your other character may not become the #1 contender for it. This is needed to keep the game competitive and not someone deciding which character they would like to have the title.

  • UC/IC - Typical “when your show has a PPV” title shots
  • Pure/HC - defended every week against the highest scoring person from the previous week on your show.
    • note - pure would no longer award title shots for lengthy reigns.
Scoring: Two options.
  • Keep as is, pick anyone you want any week, and score it just like we do now. We just know that people will only ever show up on one show.
  • Restrict picks to only picking people on either roster(except on PPV weeks?). This would guarantee uniqueness in picks each week.

Rosters/Draft:
  • We will give every existing wrestler an option to stay on Thunder or move to tuesday nights. Anyone that moves will take their overness rating with them.
  • Each writer may write/pick for up to two different males and two females, but the restriction is that you can only have one of each gender on each show. At various times of the year(maybe after each of the big 4), you may swap your male or female characters with the other brand.

  • If wwe drops the brand split, we will have to readdress the split to see if we need to phase one out and return to having one male/female member each.

I'm down of course.

Idea for pure title. Make it a title where anyone can compete in and it can bounce back and forth shows. If you're already pure champion and your other character gets top score, then title shot goes to next person.

Depending on how we score, Raw and smackdown could be unequal in scoring (raw 3 hours vs sds 2 hours, different talent, etc), meaning it would usually go to a raw guy. Plus we would already have 3 titles floating.

Why not just have a world title for each show? Having to defend the title against two different #1 contenders will probably just be a lot of rematches.

If there isn't something unifying the two shows(ie - the top tier of each division), whats the difference in that and just starting a new unrelated pfed, or just letting everyone just double up the number of characters they can use and just continuing without the split?

I'm down for a male wrestler in a second league at least. (I'm not really sure I want another Womens Wrestler but if the numbers said we needed one more I'd be a team player and create one.) I also think it would be a good idea to add WWE Main Event (the show) to the SmackDown! league so both shows would be an even three hours. If we leave the league like it is now then winning is just going to get harder and harder. If it came down to it, I may would watch and score WWE Main Event since I am pretty sure nobody else will be volunteering to watch it. :cudi To add to the idea of @Bastar we could have rules in place where you could stay on the show that you are on if someone would switch with you and go to the new show. I think we could work around it somehow and it spices things up! :hogan

If someone is only going to watch one of the shows then the right thing to do is to have them make picks for the show they watch. Don't think that'd be a problem though.

We'd have to make sure the numbers are somewhat even (if that's even possible), we don't want one show to have a completely bloated roster.

Not really a fan of scoring Main Event with Smackdown personally. I don't think one show being 3 hours and the other being 2 makes much of a difference with scoring because it's not like we'd be scoring someone on the Raw show against someone on SD. There's no advantage there.

Also nothing of relevance really ever happens on that show. I can't remember the last time they actually advanced any of their main storylines there. If they start putting more of a focus on it like when the network first launched I think it would make much more sense to do it.

I personally don't see the need for a brand split in the PWA. With the WWE draft all it is going to do is force us to rethink our picks and make a decision if we are going to rely more heavily on Raw or Smackdown superstars in our weekly line ups. Its going to make everyone really weigh their options.

If necessary we can increase the amount of picks per week if it helps. No need to go to such extremes as creating Tuesday Night Electric Boogaloo.

Having two shows is more exciting though. Have more characters to create but still have your original character. New rivalries, storylines, tag teams, etc. Plus you'd know if you won right away after watching Raw. Then you have a whole other match to look forward to the next day.

If a PWA Brand Split takes place, would Raw and SmackDown picks both be given 8 wrestlers and 2 back-ups, despite one show being 3 hours and the other 2?

Also, picks would only be respective brand to brand right? IE: Raw to Thunder; Smackdown to Lightning , correct?

I like the idea of floating World, Womens and Tag titles, but I do not think Tag teams should all float. They should be respective to brand other than title defending at inter-brand PPV's.

We have not decided to do it yet or not. This thread is to help discuss/decide how we plan to handle a split, should we do it. That way, when a poll is put up, everyone will be able to make an informed vote on which they prefer, instead of just voting on the premise of a split.

I will say that at this time, im not really for a brand split(from the moment it was brought up to me), especially if its the first option in the way we score listed in the op. That decision could likely decide how i vote. I do like the idea of writing for a new character, have been tempted to repackage for a while but never a good chance. A split could remedy that issue for me.

I was just working on my picks for this week and I gotta admit that with the brand split, picks are definitely more challenging and there are more scenarios to consider. I like it and I think it could be fun/challenging for everybody. Simply picking the top superstars on each brand is not gonna get you the most points.

I kind of like the idea of people trying to decide on raw/smackdown ppvs on if they should choose all that brands wrestlers, or still try to pick some of the opposite brand in hopes they could outscore the PPV ones.

Maybe we should hold off voting until we've had the first set of branded PPVs/Specials to see how everyone will like it before deciding if we want to stand pat or switch things up.

Or maybe just put the poll up now to see how many people actually want to do it. Why wait two months if half the people don't even want to do it? Most of the people could vote no now and we could just let it go.
