The legacy of WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant will loom large at WrestleMania 31, as a legion of Superstars will enter Levi’s® Stadium with the goal of winning the 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

The prestigious over-the-top-rope Battle Royal — a tribute to the iconic “Eighth Wonder of the World,” who was also known as “The King of the Battle Royal” — premiered at last year’s WrestleMania 30. There, 31 Superstars duked it out for the right to win a gigantic trophy created in Andre’s likeness. The wild brawl culminated when Cesaro unforgettably bodyslammed the 425-pound Big Show over the top and to the floor to become the inaugural victor.

So far, the following competitors have added their names to this year’s Andre the Giant Battle Royal lineup:

The Miz
Curtis Axel
Ryback
Fandango
Adam Rose
Zack Ryder
Jack Swagger
Titus O’Neil
Darren Young
Big Show
Kane
Erick Rowan
Damien Mizdow
Sin Cara (UPDATED MARCH 9)

Which other Superstars will join the fray as the WWE Universe races down The Road to WrestleMania? And once the match field is final, which Superstar will find the strength and intestinal fortitude to outlast the pack of grapplers, brawlers and juggernauts at The Show of Shows?

Find out when the 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal takes place at WrestleMania 31, which airs live on WWE Network Sunday, March 29!
I am rooting for Ryback to win this one.

The Jobber Battle Royal is a DISGRACE to Andre's Name

Last year, this was hyped up to be a big deal. You had some decently booked mid carders that were trying to make a name for themselves and reach the next rung of the WWE ladder by winning this battle royal. It was supposed to elevate their career. But what happened? They had Cesaro jobbing to Kofi on the WWE APP within a month. Yeah, he asked for the Heyman pairing, but that doesn't excuse WWE for giving him a shitty theme and turning him into a total loser while Heyman verbally fellates a Lesnar that couldn't be bothered to show up. In turn, something that should have elevated Cesaro became a joke.

This year, you've got a bunch of jobbers who don't matter AT ALL in this match and some of them you forgot even had a job. To make matters worse, Cena, while attempting to enter himself into the battle royal, went out of his way to point out people like Adam Rose and Fandango were signed up, so what's the big deal? Way to go Cena. If the younger crowd weren't aware that this match is full of losers, they are now. To add insult to injury, they hotshotted a Dust Brothers match onto the Fast Lane card and abandoned it quickly because no one gave a shit, despite having a ready made 8 MONTH LONG build up between Miz and Sandow that's being senselessly dragged on. Now, they're just numbers in the jobber battle royal, and nothing about it will feel special unless Sandow wins by eliminating Miz.

So to recap, instead of this being something to take someone's career to the next level, it's just been reduced to a contest for the biggest loser as a way to showcase all of the talent that WWE has wasted in the last year.

Re: 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

the winner should be the number 1 contender for the wwe championship :draper2
I actually like that idea. They pretty much let the world know how meaningless this battle royal is by their treatment of Cesaro this past year. Cesaro got a HUGE pop when he threw Big Show over the top rope. I think part of that reaction was the expectation that they finally had plans to make Cesaro a legit competitor. That was proven to be untrue. No matter who wins this year, the reaction will not be as great as last year because people know that nothing will come from it. Having the winner become the number 1 contender makes it important. It would be just like the royal rumble, so that is the down side.. But they have to do something to make this battle royal feel special. It's Andre The Freaking Giant FFS!

Where it should be depends on who is in it. If someone like Bryan enters, it has got to have a good place on the regular card. There will probably be several upper card guys doing double duty as well.

They can make this something of meaning. If only they tried.

Re: So can we officially confirm the Andre the Giant Battle Royal is pointless?

It would be cool if they did an "Ultimate Warrior Memorial Battle Royal" instead. Just feels awkward to have two Andre memorials in a row, or is it just me? Celebrate a fallen legend each year. Maybe do like Rick Rude or Macho Man at WM 32 or something.

Last year like someone said it was made a big deal with of all people Hogan announcing the match concept. Now it's just come up as obligatory filler. Other thing that sucks is last year they had Cesaro come out with his trophy and Swagger broke it on I think what was the very next night on Raw. Within one month most people forgot that he even won it. The trophy would serve as a great prop, gimmick, and bragging rights but it needs to be taken more seriously this time.

If Sheamus is in it, he will likely win. Barring something unforseen, the only other guys with a good chance are Big Show and Ryback.

Besides the paydays, the best and possibly only good thing about this match will be Miz and Mizdow moving forward their angle.

Re: REALLY WWE? REALLY?

It really is the jobber royale, though. WWE doesnt rate it at all to put it on the pre-show. Wonder which special musical guest will get it's slot on the main show?
It's how little WWE cares about the mid card. The battle royale represent like 80% of the mid card. That is there only one chance to shine the entire year and have there little moment. Now they can't even have that...

Re: 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Didn't we just have the Royal Rumble why do we need another 2 months later?

WWE should move this event to the Summer and and whoever wins this match would become number one contender for the United States or Intercontinental title

Re: So can we officially confirm the Andre the Giant Battle Royal is pointless?

I love trophies. I think I have a fetish for them in pro wrestling, but I wish the ATGMBR wasn't a throw away. Steph's promo last night against Cena kind of helped, but it's still a jobber battle royal so far. I'd like to see some kind of reward announced other than just a trophy.

No idea what it would be -- maybe a shot at the US or IC title at the next PPV? I could see Sheamus winning that then moving on to feud with either Cena (which would make sense since Sheamus is a former US champ) or move on to IC title territory. If Bryan wins the strap, WWE can finally blow their load on that match lol.

At this point, anything would help bring some interest to that match. Hell, even booking some legends in that match would help. Blow the dust off Steamboat and throw him in there lol.

Curtis Axel must win.
AxelMania must live on! :lenny

Wouldn't be surprised if he got eliminated first to be honest, just for a cheap laugh. "Oh, looks like he's finally been eliminated!" :cole "that didn't take long!" :lawler

Don't do that WWE, give 70,000+ AxelManiacs a moment to worship there hero.

?

Curtis Axel is not a draw and he's poor on the mic, they'll be rooting for wrestlers like Ryback or Mizdow over Axel.
