They've both been pretty torturous. It's getting to where Mania season is a consistent low point for my enjoyment. I guess it really is for The Casuals but they seem to be getting less and less of them. Maybe they should try to find some New Casuals.
Let's be real.. Wrestlemania has NEVER been a "Wrestling" event. Cyndi Lauper. Mr T. The decades of bullshit celebrities and gimmicks.. I mean fuck. Wrestlemania wouldn't even exist without the loads of gimmicks, commercial cock gobbling and celebrities involved.
Shit on modern day Survivor Series all you want because that was the wrestling fans real Wrestlemania. Buit Wrestlemania itself has ALWAYS been a commercially driven spectacle.

Point blank YES. As mentioned, they have everybody there so there's no excuse for this Mania build to be as half-assed as it is. IF this Mania should turn out better than expected, it'll only be because of the talent and not the booking. Fuck trying to top Wrestle Kingdom, they should worry about topping NXT that weekend.
Surprised everyone is so negative when comparing this to last year when it was 100% about Roman.
This year, the main event build is less emphasised, but the rest of the matches have longer and better story arcs.
Owens/Jericho, Orton/Wyatt, and HHH/Rollins have all been nearly 6 months in the making, and the Rumble winner spawned AJ/Shane and built into one of those rivalries. Goldberg/Lesnar technically is about that long too, but only because they're nowhere to be seen. However, on the day about half the card will be 6 months in the making. It's a decent build.
In comparison to last year... all I remember from last year was Roman vs HHH backstage brawls, Roman standing there as the roller door opened, and Shane McMahon coming back and talking about a bunch of stuff that was erased from our minds the day after mania. The Rumble was all about Roman (which was booked horrendously with the League of Nations / Roman crap) and everything else felt like it was Plan D or Plan E due to injury.
Mania 31, 32, and now this year have all had shit builds. Last year's was the worst mostly due to how thin the roster was but with 12 matches signed and only...........3-4 matches (Neville/Aries, Owens/Jericho, Rollins/HHH, and, arguably the mixed tag) with halfway decent builds? unkout
This years shits all over last years build and it's not even funny. If nothing else at least this years big matches all make logical sense (weather we like the match or not) and there has been a bit of thought about it. HHH/Rollins, Lesnar/Goldberg, Jericho/Owens and Orton/Bray have all been building for well over 6 months now. Taker/Reigns since the rumble and even the women's four way has been building up since December.
The problem more so this year is that the fans feel let down considering the potential we could have had.
Cena in a mixed tag instead of facing Taker/Joe/AJ. AJ getting stuck with Shane after a WOTYC 2016. Goldberg/Lesnar headlining th show. Reigns possibly going over Taker. It's just not what the fans were expecting really.
Yeah, I didn't even tune in tonight. Last year I'm not ashamed to admit that I was completely pumped for Shane vs Taker. Of course they fucked it up, but that level of anticipation was there. This year they have the talent there and there's just nothing I'm truly invested in.
Where is the effort? Where is the emotional investment? 13 Matches so far confirmed and there is only one match that I am invested in and it's the match that, in theory, shouldn't be happening but has the potential to be awesome and that's AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon. All this talent and no effort. Rollins vs. HHH is something I should be invested in; Reigns vs. Undertaker is something I should be invested in; Owens vs. Jericho is something I should be invested in (I am a little); Wyatt vs. Orton is something I was invested in. If WWE isn't going to put any care and effort in their biggest show of the year, why should I care?
Speaking of big shows, I've been watching NJPW for a full year and yet, I was way more invested in this year's Wrestle Kingdom than I am for this year's Mania. I was invested in Okada/Omega; I was invested in Naito/Tanahashi; I was invested in Bucks/RPG Vice even though they've done that match 250 times; I was invested in Shibata/Goto and so on. Be more like Wrestle Kingdom. Actually, scratch that be how you used to be WWE in regards to building up major shows. Sure, last year was awful because you had a lot of talent absent and reshuffling and said talent was the only thing that made last year's Mania go from potentially awful to just mediocre. Now you have all the talent and this is the best you got?
TL;DR Yes, this build is worse because they have all the pieces and they can't put them together to save their lives.
Much better than previous years imo, of recent years it's leaps and bounds ahead of 27,29,31 and 32. Rollins v HHH, Wyatt v Orton, KO v Jericho, Styles v Shane, Corbin/Ambrose, Miz and Maryse/Cena and Nikki and even Goldberg/Lesnar have all been built well and actually have heat with each other compared to previous years.
The only match that has been built half assdly is Reigns v Taker in which there has only been 2 interactions between each other, however thats the standard build for Taker's matches these days.
And for people saying that last years build was better, i'd love for someone to point towards a match that was built better than matches on the card from this year (besides Lesnar/Ambrose)
The buildup of hhh vs rollins, owens vs jericho and orton vs wyatt overshadows the entire wrestlemania 32 buildup.
Hell even styles vs shane is better.
They kept Roman off of tv for a period of time because they knew he would be booed. It's pretty fucking hard to top that logic of "Put Roman in the main event! But! Let's keep him off of tv so he can get a pop when he comes back because that'll work!".
None of the matches feel like big time matches. Like they can be created in a week and no one cares about the card. All the full time guys are getting shafted except for like 4 or 5. We have matches we dont need and matches no one asked for. Its like a group of guys in the back had a challenge to see who can come up with the fastst mania card and they just start throwing bunch of names down and Vince agreed to one of them.
Last year wasnt their fault because of the amount of injuries and there were some moments to look back on. None of that this year.
What are Undertaker and Roman fighting over? Undertaker gets dumped out of the Royal Rumble and it's Roman's "yard?" The heck kind of a build is that? This build sucks but it's not quite on the level of last year. Last year was just miserable.
This is gonna be a new thing every year for smark. "Is this years RTWM be worse than last" every year going forward is going to be the RTWM just so they can fit their narrative of hating on everything WWE does. This RTWM was not bad at all.
- Rollins / HHH
- AJ / Shane
- Jericho / KO
- Mix Tag Team
Those 4 matches alone has been built up rather nicely and I'm looking forward to those matches actually. Sucks that they completely destroyed Braun's momentum, left Zayn & Joe with nothing to do, half-assed the women's division matches but all in all, its not THAT bad compared to last year's; which was easily the worst build imo.
Wrestlemania has always been about combining entertainment and athleticism. Look at all the celebrity involvement from the first Mania. Nothing wrong with that but it's been a while since they've done either right. With this talent, it SHOULD be a very good to even great show but that booking has done nothing to help them out.
Throwing every woman on Smackdown into one random cluster title match? :Out
Rushing what was once a great angle in Randy Orton and The Wyatt Family to turn Orton face and create a convoluted mess of an angle? :Out
Throwing the entire Raw Women's Division into a fatal four way, a match that would've been better off with being a 3 way? :Out
Roman vs. Undertaker, which should be AWESOME given a less than worthy story? :Out
AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon as a match period? :Out
While I've enjoyed them as Owens & Jericho as a duo, NOW they figured out that Kevin Owens is a ruthless bastard? :Out
The New Day as hosts of Mania instead of chasing after the tag titles? :Out
While I'm not against part timers in the main event, TWO part timers in a main event that will probably go 2 minutes? :gtfo
Obviously, I left out the Cruisweight title match, the mix tag, and Rollins vs. Hunter as those matches have something I could truly get behind.
