Re: First Bioshock Infinite review is out...GOTYC

I thought the ending was very well done, thought-provoking, and wrapped up a story that had been told expertly throughout the game. The final battle, and really the entire game, was spectacular. I don't know if it out-and-out tops the original Bioshock, but it's a worthy successor. An equally great game and a credit to Irrational. Columbia is every bit as magical as Rapture.

I'd recommend everyone plays the game on Hard. It really goes a long way to extending playtime, along with making the game-play more rewarding. Enemies appear in greater numbers, they obviously deal/absorb more damage, there's less loot, and it forces you to use the vigors more wisely. The sections I've gone back through on Medium were a walkthrough.

I ended up with 79/80 Voxophones () and a playtime of 16 hours. I think I dug through just about every nook and cranny I could find. Couldn't waste a drop of that liquid gold.

Is this worth getting or not? I keep going back and forth. I've never played the others, for what it matters.

Still can't decide if I want to pick up this or wait for Injustice Gods Amongst Us. Or maybe I'll just skip both and pick up a couple 3DS games I've been meaning to get. Hm...

Just get it. The good far outweighs the not-so good, to be honest.

Red-Boxed it last Tuesday. Played a lot of it but haven't had time to beat it yet, pretty close though. I'm probably going to pull an all-dayer on Sunday and finish it. Big steam-punk fan, so the commercial blew me away and I just had to try it [first BioShock for me]. So far, so good. Bit of a mindfuck but I'll save why for the review when I finish.

The Lighthouse was insane.

Any battleground with ledges and the such just use Undertow. Upgrade the throw distance and your set. The only problems I had on hard were the Handymen, the ghost boss and the final battle just because of the Patriots.

Agreed about the difficulty. With each BioShock game I have always played them on Hard as I've always found them to be a really enjoyable challenge, something that CoD usually forgets when you're on Veteran. There were times when it really does become HARD - (Previously stated) Graveyard battle, Final Battle atop the Zeppelin etc.. I think that's the one place where I fell down whilst playing on hard, I didn't use my Vigors as much as I should have which is why I would occasionally run out of ammo. Not good when you're in a tough battle.

79?! Man that sucks, really sucks. I only got about 50, so wasn't looking very much, or well enough. Which probably contributed to my deaths at the end so much. But I've always loved that part of BioShock, in every previous game I've collected all the diaries and I'll certainly do the same in this one.

@ dan - Yes you should get it, truly brilliant!

Yeah, I love the diaries in the Bioshock series. A lot of games just throw meaningless collectibles at the player, but these actually add to the backstory. The last few Voxophones even help flesh out the ending.

I died a lot more than I wanted to in the graveyard battles. Kept running out of ammo, vigors, money, and life. 1999 mode is gonna be a bitch at that point. When it came to the Zeppelin I equipped gear that gave 50% additional damage on skylines, which really helped me through, and finally using Undertow on the Patriots didn't hurt either.

Totally agree about the difficulty. It's challenging but in all the right ways/places. You don't always get that kind of curve in games these days.

Agreed. It's very rare to find a game where the collectibles actually adds something to the story, or the background of characters and locations. Alan Wake sort of had both, where the Manuscripts added to the story, but the Thermo-flasks represented something, but ultimately meant nothing.

Yeah, the Graveyard part was the first time I really struggled, like you I was just running out of everything. I'm sure it'll take me a while to finish it on 1999 Mode. There were certain points I felt like I probably would never complete 1999 Mode as I was struggling on Hard.

As for the Final Battle I used Clothes that gave me 25% Damage while aiming, 50% Critical Damage and I was using both Shock and Undertow. They helped a lot. But one of my biggest down falls at the start was using Songbird incorrectly. I was pretty much using him on everything.
