Disc Format Is Probably Going To Die For Games Within The Next Decade Or So
This isn't a report or anything just something I've noticed lately. It seems that gaming will soon become an internet required thing as the years go on. With the PS4 and Xbox 3 supposedly being extremely internet heavy consoles, it seems inevitable. I kind of get the point, you can't lose sales in used online games since in most cases buying used online (digital download) games isn't possible. Digital downloads are cheaper to release due to cutting cost on cases, manuals and disc, despite how small they may be individual a couple million copies that don't sell well can hurt a developer financially, they won't have to worry about this if gaming becomes completely digital. We're already heading towards this direction, Sony is releasing new PS3 titles as day one digital releases, and Microsoft usually releases a new title every few months or so after release on XBLA. There are even some sellers on ebay and mom and pop shops who are able to get their hands on download vouchers of recent games on day one (and in some cases before). It honestly sucks for people who enjoy seeing the awesome box art of a game they've been anticipating, being forced to download games will also quickly kill the hard drive space of your console, something that disc eliminates, thoughts?

This applies to every media facet. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to do the math here.
DVD's are already completely useless with all major TV's coming with USB slots compatible with most video codecs.

There will always be a market for physical copies, just expect them to be $10+ more than what the digital copy would cost.

I would always rather actually own the physical game/DVD, rather than download a file. There's more to go wrong with a file.

Music CDs are still around and nobody buys them, I prefer physical copies so I will continue to buy them for as long as possible.

I hate digital copies and have always preferred physical copies. At least you can get take them back for a refund if you don't like them, and you feel like you actually own them.

Pretty much this. ^
I'd much rather purchase a physical copy than download the stupid fucking thing. Not only do I prefer having the physical game in my hands, but downloading games murders hard drive space, and take forever and a day to download. I can literally drive to Target, buy the game, get home, and be playing before the download would be finished. I could probably make two trips.
