I was recently without internet for a week because of bad weather/shitty internet provider, so instead of having the gaming console to keep myself entertained I would had to have found something else.. and solitaire gets boring after about ten minutes.

I take it you're the type of person who just accepts anything the developers or console makes give you.

The point is, things happen. Internet goes down and not everyone in North America has steady internet or even has internet. Microsoft is alienating that consumer base. Regardless, we are the consumer, it is their job to appease us, not the other way around. Why would anyone buy a console which will be an inconvenience any time the internet goes down for maintenance, high traffic, or inclement weather.

Plus, we have seen this before and the last instance of something like this, there was lag in a single player game.

This is a deal breaker for me. If Sony do not go the same route I'll get a PS4. Who can afford to buy full price xbox 720/PS4 games if they cannot sell them on. Once you use the code it's pretty much worthless. Buying a game is a big fucking decision now. No more game rentals. Won't be able to lend games to friends. Can't play the game you bought if your internet is down. Wtf?

If Sony go the same way I'll finally switch to PC gaming. I've recently installed Steam. Games are so much cheaper. I just need a better PC to run the newer games. PC has lots of mods too.

I'm really not a fan of Steam, they have a lot of the same issues. Like I can't play certain games if I don't have Steam? Fuck that. Though the store has some amazing sales.
