Got my copy today. Not going to spoil anything, just my first few impressions. First playthrough I'll play alone, but I'll definitely check out the coop too after the inital playthrough. So far I am about nearly one third through the game.
As I've mentioned before I am huge fan of the Dead Space series. The game starts rather differently compared to the previous two (setting, enemies etc.) IMO not bad, just different. But it doesn't take too long and again you are alone, it's dark and weird noises everywhere. If you enjoyed the atmosphere of the previous games you'll probably enjoy it again (I do). The upgrade system is new; at first I was like wtf? but I think as soon as you get used to it works fine.
The combat system stayed the same and the game looks great.
So far, I have only 2 minor gripes. One, if you played the DS 1/2 it's kinda obvious when you'll be attacked and when you'll be able to walk down the hallway relaxed. Great atmosphere and everything, but as of yet no spawning enemy really scared me.
Two, the missions, so far atleast, are very similar to the previous games. "Isaac, go to xy and turn the power back on" "Isaac, we hear weird noises in this room, but all of us are bussy doing something important, so go check it out for us" But to be fair, for years and years GTA offers the same missions in every new game again and it is still awesome, so not too much to worry about imo.
Also, keep in mind that I am not too far into the game yet so maybe things will change.
There is one more thing, but it isn't necessarily the "game's fault". I started on normal difficulty and it's too easy. As of yet I died only once, not by an enemy, but because I flew into a ventilator
So if you are an expierenced DS player I highly recommend starting on a harder difficulty. I am already looking forward to the hardcore playthrough
Overall, so far, I'd definitely buy again. Maybe I am biased, but I feel like it was very hard for them to develope a new Dead Space which is different enough so you don't ask yourself why you bought a new game instead of just replaying the first two, but still does not forget its roots. To me Dead Space 1 was something really new and is next to Destruction Derby 1 probably my alltime favourite game. I was scared, adrenalin rushing through my body and I am not embarresed to say that in my first playthrough were one or two moments in which I felt like a little child watching its first horror movie or something like that. I guess it is almost impossible to recreate something like that in the third installment of a series.
Again, just a third through the game yet, so there is still lots to do and then there are several more playthroughs and different gaming expierences waiting (coop, hardcore etc)
Give it a try, I enjoy it alot.
