Just got back from work and found this has been delivered. Will have dinner then start playing it. Hopefully it's still entertaining like the others. As usual I'll probably just end up using the Plasma Cutter all the way through. Did that with the first, and most of the second game.

Got my copy today. Not going to spoil anything, just my first few impressions. First playthrough I'll play alone, but I'll definitely check out the coop too after the inital playthrough. So far I am about nearly one third through the game.

As I've mentioned before I am huge fan of the Dead Space series. The game starts rather differently compared to the previous two (setting, enemies etc.) IMO not bad, just different. But it doesn't take too long and again you are alone, it's dark and weird noises everywhere. If you enjoyed the atmosphere of the previous games you'll probably enjoy it again (I do). The upgrade system is new; at first I was like wtf? but I think as soon as you get used to it works fine.
The combat system stayed the same and the game looks great.

So far, I have only 2 minor gripes. One, if you played the DS 1/2 it's kinda obvious when you'll be attacked and when you'll be able to walk down the hallway relaxed. Great atmosphere and everything, but as of yet no spawning enemy really scared me.
Two, the missions, so far atleast, are very similar to the previous games. "Isaac, go to xy and turn the power back on" "Isaac, we hear weird noises in this room, but all of us are bussy doing something important, so go check it out for us" But to be fair, for years and years GTA offers the same missions in every new game again and it is still awesome, so not too much to worry about imo.
Also, keep in mind that I am not too far into the game yet so maybe things will change.

There is one more thing, but it isn't necessarily the "game's fault". I started on normal difficulty and it's too easy. As of yet I died only once, not by an enemy, but because I flew into a ventilator So if you are an expierenced DS player I highly recommend starting on a harder difficulty. I am already looking forward to the hardcore playthrough

Overall, so far, I'd definitely buy again. Maybe I am biased, but I feel like it was very hard for them to develope a new Dead Space which is different enough so you don't ask yourself why you bought a new game instead of just replaying the first two, but still does not forget its roots. To me Dead Space 1 was something really new and is next to Destruction Derby 1 probably my alltime favourite game. I was scared, adrenalin rushing through my body and I am not embarresed to say that in my first playthrough were one or two moments in which I felt like a little child watching its first horror movie or something like that. I guess it is almost impossible to recreate something like that in the third installment of a series.

Again, just a third through the game yet, so there is still lots to do and then there are several more playthroughs and different gaming expierences waiting (coop, hardcore etc)

Give it a try, I enjoy it alot.

Got up to chapter 6 and im enjoying the game alot. Taking it alittle slow since when I played 2 I played it nonstop. I absolutely love the weapon crafting and im sure I havent even hit the tip of the iceberg. Who is gonna stop me when I got a gun thats an smg/plasma cutter and I can still add parts to make the cutter part better.

Hate the weapon crafting idea and the Universal ammo is making it too easy. So far so meh

Currently at Chapter 6, now it's starting to feel more Dead Space-y, but still there's so much backtracking, having to go back and forth in the same place 2-3 times is making things kinda repetitive. Some random instrumental country song started playing in the background while I was struggling to escape all these fucking necromorphs. When do I get to the iced planet already?

in #2, do you start off with every gun unlocked, and a whole lot of suits as well? I'm picking up the guns along the way and don't know why since I already have them all.

Think I got up to about Chapter 5 last night and I'm enjoying it. I still find it to be a Dead Space game, it's got the dark and claustrophobic corridors from the first game, really enjoying going through the ship and learning more about where the Markers came from. Also did one side mission which added to the story, it was also good fun. Liking the Space jumps as well which just seem so epic in size.

The only downers I can think of are the Crafting Bench, but this is more me than anything else, I'm just not that good at it at the moment. I'm still trying to learn how they work and what not. Also the Plasma Cutter seems so poor as compared to the previous game. Just seems really slow and underpowered, and I know if I upgrade it it'll improve. But it just seems much weaker than the previous games when you start off with the gun.

Yeah im up to chapter 6 and also did an optional mission. Im enjoying the game a ton and could easily play all day but dont wanna beat it like its a race. I love the crafting bench though, I havent been able to make any weapons from scratch but I did turn my smg into a smg/plasma cutter. its basically the only weapon I really use atm whats more awesome than having an smg on top and the cutter on the bottom for a gun.

As a Dead Space veteran lol I should have probably started on a harder difficulty. Normal feels so easy now, I have med kits for days.

Agreed, Soup. I've had it since Thursday and I've played a little bit here an there, like you, I don't want to rush through it. I played more of it last night but have still been taking it slow. As for the bench I do think it's a good system it's just I haven't fully grasped how to use it yet. I do have my Plasma Cutter with faster reload and a damage/higher clip upgrade, so that's helping.

My inventory is just overflowing with Med-Kits it's just insane. I swear that's all I'm really getting now from dead enemies. over 2/3rds of it is just Med-Kits. I'm certainly looking forward to playing on the tougher difficulties, that should be a blast. I also want to go back to the older games and do that.
