Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
I'm not into the games or stats / compositions like some of you guys but I have a question to ask
If you caught a pokemon and it was under your main pokemons level how do you approach using it? In previous gen games I have my starter or another dedicated pokemon one man until the end of the game, grinding where needed with some semi decent in reserve. I now don't want to do that but if I field a pokemon I've just caught in the wild, barring the use of excessive potions I'd have to run back to the centre to heal up all the bloody time - don't have the patience for it I'm afraid

Yup, makes it far more of a challenge and an accomplishment.

Switch in / Switch Out.
Start off with the Lower Level Pokemon in the battle and then switch back into your higher leveled Pokemon and get the KO. Both get around about half Experience and it keeps your weaker Pokemon out of the battle. Or you could just go back a few towns and battle around that area.

wouldn't you like the levels to go up only for every pokemon caught or trainer defeated to keep repitition to a minumum?

No. It would make the game way to easy..
Of course! What is the point in having any rare Pokemon or 1 chance captures if they'll never faint.. I don't save in front of Legends anyways.. Way too easy to just restart and try again..

Yep. I've got the old GB games on emulator so I don't have to deal with the Save Failures that the Cartridges have nowadays.

You can give your weaker pokemon an item called "Exp. Share". This way, your weak pokemon will receive exp even if it wasn't even in the battle . I prefer this than starting with weaker pokemon and then change to stronger one, which can be annoying as hell.

Try using a exp share, The pokemon wearing it will recieve half the expeirence points. Also try and get a lucky egg and give it to the pokemon you have battling the experince will be doubled as will the pokemon wearing the exp share.
There is usually only one exp share in each game and you can't normally get it until the latter half of the the game.
Luck eggs are a little harder to get as you need to catch alot of chancey's and apart from Platinum that can be a bit of a problem.
You could also just leave the pokemon in day care but it's stats usually suffer if you do this.
The only other way is to find a good spot and grind the hell out of the lower level pokemon you trying to raise.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
just a warning for those who are trying to catch them all, some pokemon don't even have evolutions so leveling up would be a waste of time if you don't have prior knowledge of all the details

for the first part of the game grind and running to the centre is unforutnaely nesisary for some semblance of a team consisting of your starter and a wingman to make up for its weakness, at least for the first and or second gym
later on in the game wild pokemon tend to have higher levles and have more elemnetal based attacks already upon catching them that can really help you out, especially ghost and rock/ground pokemon
MUCH later on in the game chances are its possible to get the EXP.ALL item that can help when leveling up if not just just to fill out your pokedex a little more easily

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
No, what you do is use the EXP Share and switch out the one you're trying to level, getting them 3/4 of the experience.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
Thanks for the advice I now have exp share so I'm doing that and grinding Audinos when I find a decent strip of grass I can run up and down nearby, not sure if it's still as effective XP wise as Black 1?
Noobishly died to the 4th gym leader earlier with the bolt and switch, her pokemon were always faster than mine and I have no rock type so just levelling up my party, caught a Heracross earlier, nostalgia baby
Will research lucky egg soon, forget what it does
