I was an old school fan and I mainly stopped playing after Diamond and Pearl. I'm debating whether or not to buy Pokemon Black 2 just to catch up somewhat. The pokemon roster is nearly doubled since I known and interesting to see how online works.

the battles in the anime are more like a fighting game than a turn based RPG so you'd expect that to be priority number one when innovating the pokemon games

i stopped after that too, the work just isn't worth the online battles that don't even have leader boards

you'd be better off waiting for the next generation, hopefully then all Nintendo games will be download only and we might finally get that Pokemon MMORPG

The anime also brought us gems like Roarks Geodude having 5 moves and a Pikachu taking down an Onix with Thundershock thanks to a Sprinkler System in a Rock Type gym...

Yeah, you do. I'd suggest Bibarel as you best option for it. (Learns Waterfall, Surf, Strength & Rock Smash)
