Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
Whitney was always a bitch for me all because I had no luck with her Clefairy's Metronome.. Psychic, Aeroblack, Milk Drink, Surf.. Pretty much cycled through those 4 moves Non-Stop.. There was the rare Crit on my end, but by the time it happened, I had two Pokemon left and Miltank was rolling about the place like the fat fuck o' a cow it is..

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
I liked Whitney. Her and Miltank were of the few times that you were challenged in the game, one of the only times I would save before facing a trainer in Pokemon Crystal. Miltank's Rollout could be a real pain, especially after it's hit you a few times, combine that with Milk Drink that enabled her to self-heal at any time, and it could be a real pain to take down. I agree with the person who brought up Machop, probably the best counter you can find for Miltank around the area. You couldn't actually find a Machop in the wild until you get to that cave next to the 4th Gym, so you normally couldn't find one until you've beaten Whitney, but thanks to that guy in the Goldenrod department store you can trade a Abra for a Machop and get one earlier than intended and use it to beat Whitney. I wasn't made aware of that Abra/Machop trade when I first played the game, and it's something you could easily miss.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
Yeah I never used a Machop, I liked that one of the gym leaders was a bit of a challenge. Misty was challenging in Gen 1 a bit and there was some steel guy in gen 3 or 4 who was a real pain that I just managed to beat by the skin of my teeth but aside from that gym leaders are usually pretty easy.
Gen 2 probably had some of the toughest gym leaders actually. Whitney was hard and the Ghost guy, Steel girl and the one with the dragons were all tough depending on what team you had.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
Whitney, Lucien (Diamond/Pearl), Blue (Red/Blue/Yellow) and Cynthia (D/P/B/W/B2/W2) are the only trainers who actually provide a serious challenge in these games..
Each one has that one Pokemon who just takes things to a whole 'nother level..
Whitney - Miltank
Lucien - Bronzong
Blue/Gary/1st Gen Rival.. - Alakazam
Cynthia - Garchomp
1 Gym Leader, 1 Elite 4 Member & 2 Champions.. Out of around about 60 or so Gym Leaders, Elite 4 Members and Champions, only 4 pose a real challenge.. After your first playthrough all that challenge has gone as you are now a lot more prepared which just makes the game too easy which is when all the 'Gimmick' playthroughs start. (Solo, Nuzlocke, Mono-Colour, Mono-Type etc.)

Anyone else play any hacks? Pokemon Light Platinum is G.O.A.T.
Also the best Eevee evolution is Umbreon.

Don't worry, Cynthia isn't the Champion in Black/White/Black2/White2. I don't think I spoiled anything other than that in the last 2 posts.

I completed Rijon Adventures & Brown a few years back. I started to make an Emerald Hack 4-5 years ago but never completed it.

Machamp's one of my favorite Pokemon so I often raised a Machop on my team. Another strategy I liked to use on Whitney was to use fast Pokemon with a sleep move (Gastly's a great choice) and once you put Miltank to sleep you switch to a stronger Pokemon to get some big hits in before it wakes up. Yeah Misty can a be a bit of a challenge, especially if you started with a Charmander. Her Starmie with Bubblebeam that would nearly always out-speed you could be a challenge from time to time.
Whitney was challenging. Morty too (Ghost Gym leader) with his Gengar with Shadow Ball and Dream Eater, Jasmine (Steel Gym leader) was easy most of time, just have a strong water type move or Pokemon to deal with Steelix and the two magnemite's were easy. Clair (Dragon gym leader) could be a challenge with her Kingdra sometimes.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
Daiko I'm going to be able to chose from the first gen, 3rd, and 4th starters soon (close to the point in Soul Silver; going to start platinum soon after). Which of them do you not have; that way I can chose that one, and trade you for the one you do have; breed it, and even trade it back if you want it.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread!
i never understood why people struggled
then again as a kid i didnt even know what stats were. All i knew was that my charizard, when levelled enough, can wipe the floor with any pokemon through sheer force of will
even later, i had a feralgatr with dynamic punch. because fuck logic. i was 10. i didnt give a shit
