Re: Underrated Games that You Like
Prey - starts off as a pretty average and cliched FPS, what with your girlfriend being kidnapped by aliens and all. But persist, and the game positively goes from average to awesome, especially in its second half.
The alien spacecraft which you explore, its otherworldly inhabitants and the kooky weapon models are all so inventive, like nothing you have ever seen before. The game designers took a risk by incorporating native American mythology as a strong focus in the game, but in my opinion, it paid off, giving the entire experience a very poignant and spiritual slant. Best of all, the game charts the main protagonist's personal journey from whiney adolescent to manhood.
As you can tell, I absolutely loved this game - it was a breath of fresh air in a genre inundated with boring military shooters. I even got a little teary at the game's conclusion - it had that much of an effect on me. I was saddened when I heard that the planned sequel is going to have nothing to do with its predecessor.
