Yeah, if you miss a counter you are open to attack nothing wrong with that. You can still recover from it and kick their asses...

Just buy the upgrade to reduce the waiting time. I don't think that's a flaw in the mechanic. It's just in-place to ensure that you're not invincible. If there's one fault, it's that the combat is way too easy. Even when you miss a counter.

Agreed, even doing those Combat Schools can be easy. You can pretty much go through all 6 level without taken damage, or slight damage. I hardly ever used the guns when fighting, only used them when I had to. Hand-to-hand was so much easier and better.
