Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
First time doing this series for me, never knew of it. If Demon Souls is as good as this one its a shame I never got to play that one. I started off with making my character the Thief. I later found out it might not of been the best choice of character for someone new to the game let alone series but oh well. Apparently the only class that is listed as being tougher is the deprived.
So far my weapon of choice has been the first Black Knight Sword. It has been able to tear through bosses and I like the the length advantage it has over the Drake Sword. Pretty low requirements for it as well and can single handle it. It definitely helps keep groups of enemies at bay as well which is something the thief character needs since it is weak against multiple enemies at once. It has gotten me to Blighttown now with no real problems.
I am interested in getting a new shield though. I was looking around to try and see what there is and thought about getting the Crystal shield since it looked quite nice till I found out it can not be repaired. I'm not about to waste souls on a one and done shield. I did find a little information on a Butterfly Shield that is suppose to be amazing. Does anyone have any ideas on this shield?

You should find the Spider Shield for Blighttown. It reduces poison. There's also Ninja Gear in Blighttown that does the same. Also, make sure to buy a lot of poison and toxin heals. At least 15 poison heals and 10 toxin heals. The toxin guys are a pain in the ass, but they don't respawn.
Your class doesn't matter. If you think the thief looked cool, that is all that mattered. You started with the Master Key which is important. All classes can be built however you want since you have control over the stat leveling.
But generally, Warrior is good for newbies since it has a good strength/vitality and starting armor. The best overall will likely end up being the Pyromancer since he starts at level 1 and can be built the best since he has a few levels more to build.

I got the game and am loving it. I keep getting owned by the bell gargoyles though. I'm at level 21 and have a Halbred +4.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
After my post I did some scouting around zones. I already have the Spider Shield. I ran through Dark Basin and picked up the Grass Crest Shield. It's not quite 100% against physical but the inherit bonus of increased stamina gain is very nice. After that I ran the Valley of the Drakes. Picked up the Dragon Crest Shield.
Ya the Master key was actually the selling point of the thief to me when I picked it.
Sephiroth, you know anything about some butterfly shield? I tried checking the Dark Soul Wiki databate but none to be found. I know its got something to do with the Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly to make a unique weapon.

I've gone and gotten myself lost. With a lot of powerful enemies.
Damn me and my exploration.

Just circle around the Gargoyle and attack from behind, it might work better if you're not targetting it. Not sure how many hits it takes with other weapons, but if you use the Drake Sword the tail should come off in one hit.

I haven't used her soul yet. I've only used Quelaag's soul to make a Chaos Blade.
Boon, where are you?

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
In a forest. I fell down a cliff and cant get back up and theres these giant stone knights and these things that look like ice monsters.
Whats worse, the stone knights use this spell which slows me down and I cant roll or anything.

Did you beat Sif? If not, I think it sounds like you're in Darkroot Basin. Just ignore the ice monsters and look for a tower. That tower is a shortcut to Undwad Burg.
There should be a hydra nearby too.
