Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
Fighting Ornstien and Smough right now and damn that's a challenge yet so fun and epic. I'm equipped with a Black Knight Sword +5 and Heater Shield +5, Elite Knight Helm +6, Elite Knight Gaunts and Leggings +5 and Hardened Leather armor +7. Also has Havels ring and the Golden Serpent Ring equipped. I think I should be able to beat them eventually with that. Also playing pure warrior, so I have no sorcereries, pyros, or miracles. Damn I love this game.

Yeah that fight is tough and so awesome when you do finally beat it. I remember dying over and over even with the help of Solaire. Had to summon to ppl online to finally beat them. I think I'll do better this playthrough when I get to them. When I did do it solo I did better getting rid of Smough first because I just couldn't deal when he got the lightning in his gigantic hammer.

I think Orenstein is the hardest of the two both small and large sizes.
Paco, why do you have the Golden Serpent Ring on for that fight? It does nothing for you other than make loot drops happen more often.

Because I kill the Royal Sentinels outside the boss room for Titanite chunks and the ring helps increase those chances and I never bothered to switch the ring out for anything else.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
Did you pick up the Ring of Steel Protection in Sen's? If so just change the ring before going into the fog. It will help you out alot more than that Serpent ring. If not you can use any of the tearstone rings as well. Just something other than the Serpent ring. That Serpent ring, btw, is one of my favorite. I use it for farming all the time. Especially those slugs in Blighttown and the Dark Wraiths in New Londo Ruins.

Blighttown is so much more bearable when I'm not running around trying to collect everything. In. Beat Quelaag. Sunbro for a bit. Out.
I'm truly dreading O+S and the Four Kings though. My character is even weaker than last time. I have around 12 vitality and only have 40 poise because of the Wolf Ring. I'm basically screwed until I can upgrade my Uchigatana to +15 and get CMW from Big Hat Logan.

Agreed, as soon as I got rid of him I just found the fight a lot easier. Smough was always easier to roll out of the way, or dodge his attacks. But Orenstein was just the opposite (obviously!) quicker and agile and just harder to hit. He still only took a couple of hits though with the Halberd and Power Within.
Blighttown is still one of my favourite areas to go to, just love the look and the atmosphere to that plus. The only negatives to it are the Poison Dart assholes and at some points the game framerate slows down a bit. Other than that a great place.
