Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Nice, yeah I'll use this thread for additional info. I couldn't find it when I looked, only went back like 5 pages worth of threads. :[

Quote:
Only resistance to curse is down, but it doesn't matter.

As for the red dragon, there is a really cheap way to kill him, which to be honest, is the best way to go since its pointless to try and actually fight him. There is a spiral tower with a black knight at the top after emerging from the area where you can snipe the dragon's tail. Shoot just ONE arrow into the dragon's back and boom, he's gone and you get 10,000 souls.
I saw you post previously that Resistance might be busted. I don't know exactly what 1.05 patched and how any of these tips may be altered as result, I hear the patch changed many things. I'll have to try sniping the tail now that I have a bow, but I don't know that area you speak of. (Edit: I found it, but no dragon visible from this perch - I am looking where he definitely should be - patch changed it perhaps?) I thought I was supposed to snipe it under the bridge where he normally breathes the fire if you go to close where he guards the entrance to that altar place. And this seems to not work, but maybe there is a workaround. This is to date, the best view in the game. I love the castle way above the Undead Burg/Church from this vantage point in the mountains above.

Edit: I might have to look for a video, seems this dragon needs a Red Tearstone Ring to do more damage, and way higher dex than I have (like 12 currently, went heavy into Str/Endur/Vit). The sword does do like 54 higher dmg than my suck Battle Axe, so yeah, be a huge upgrade for sure, and I can wield it unlike that suck mace and cleaver that Capra Demon dropped.

For people who may want an image of an aerial map, this one looks decent.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

I was thinking about making a new thread for this but since Seph was so kind to link me to this one I'll just bump it.

So yeah I got the game recently and I'm in love with hit. The learning curve is extremely steep it seems with this game but I'm getting the hang of it. I'm almost to soul level 20 and I think I'm going to go with a dexterity build and use the Uchikatana. Right now I'm trying to get Havel's ring... I'll need alot of luck for that though... I've died there several times.

Lock on, roll away, slash once (MAYBE TWICE) then roll away. It takes a few minutes, but worth it. He's a pushover.

As for Dex build, don't forget to boost Endurance. Its the most important stat in the game.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

I've boosted endurance a couple of times... The next time I'm on tonight I'll get a full list of my abilities. I think I have Dex up to 18 or 19 so far since my Uchikatana levels with Dexterity.

Getting Dex up early is good, especially if you want to use an Iaito.

I have this game and might start it this weekend, is it as long as Skyrim?

Longer because you die every 3 minutes.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Okay do I need to buff my Uchikatana up to +10 before I can use Magic Weapon? If so I bought it far too soon lol. I'm only at +5. Also, what do I need to get (and where do I get it) before I can buff my weapon from 6-10?

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

You need to get to Anor Lando and find the giant smith. You're quite far from that point. Don't be too concerned about later, just focus on the now. Besides, once you get the Iaito, there is no going back.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Not to say Sephiroth is wrong as the dude is probably on NG+++++ or something but I personally found the Iaito overrated and much preferred the Uchigatana. In saying that though I ended up going with the Great Scythe for half of the game simply because it made me look like the grim reaper so it's not saying much.

I also found it far easier backstabbing Havel. Rolling in and out and slashing is just asking to me smashed in to a pancake.
