He gives another side of the story and even some backstory you don't get with Frampt. Again, it's just personal preference. I can be quite fussy about knowing everything about the story or setting of a game (even one as minimal as DkS).

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
Cleared out Sen's Fortress and stomped the Iron Golem in about 10 seconds. Got the Iato to +10 and nabbed the Lightning Spear (which I upgraded to +4 as well). Lightning Spear is the shit, man. Those Heavy Knights with the big fucking mace and shield go down after about 4 pokes with the spear now. The sentinels in Anor Londo are going down in jig time as well. Eagle Shield +5 + Lightning Spear +4 = Fuck Your Face. I imagine I'll be reaching the blacksmith in Anor Londo pretty soon so I'll go ahead and add the lightning enchantment to the Iato when I get there.
Killed the Undead Dragon from the Valley of Drakes. Thought about tackling the wyverns as well, but I'll wait until I've got some armour that has decent lightning resistance. Not looking forward to facing these ghosts in the New Londo Ruins that I've been hearing about.

Here's a pretty dumbass question from somebody who already beat the game and clocked in at around 70 hours. Does strength scale with weapons? I've looked online but it isn't very clear. Some seem to imply 'scaling' is just how much the attack power of the weapon increases as you upgrade it.
... and yeah the ghosts suck. Just make sure you don't do a me and realise half way through the damn place that those transient curse items don't actually half your HP while you've been running around actually cursed with 1/2 HP.

Scaling just means damage or def increases as the stat it is associated with increases. Some +15 weapons are the best because of scaling.
Don't upgrade Lightning Spear because there is only one blue slab (or whatever color lightning uses) in the game. Save it for Iaito.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Itching to start another new game as a thief despite the fact I just started playing Skyrim (not that Skyrim isn't totally awesome in every way).
Anybody here played Demon's Souls? How do you think it holds up? I got to the Maneater and gave up but I was nowhere near as immersed as I was/am with Dark Souls.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
I gave up on Demon's Souls not long after that big ass spider boss fight. It was partly down to the fact I picked up Skyrim which I'd been waiting for forever, and partly because I was constantly getting my ass handed to me and any time I felt like I was approaching "decent", something would knock me back down to "garbage" pretty swiftly.
After I finish this (assuming I even do...I don't really play many games, let alone finish them) I might go back and play Demon's Souls, though. The combat feels really similar, and I feel like I've "gotten" it now. That said, having "got it" or not, I'm generally digging this way more than I was Demon's Souls.

The bosses in DeS were harder and in more of a cheap way. In Dark Souls there is usually more than one way to kill a boss. Very rarely is it a case of 'You're a mage? Well you're fucked then' which seemed to occur a lot in Demon's.
I loved Boletaria and the Tower of Latria though. The atmosphere the first time I entered ToL was unbelievable. Even though I'd pick the Dark Souls world over Demon's by far those were probably my favourite places out of both games. It's probably impossible to create that kind of level in an open-world game though.
I had that feeling of great to garbage in Dark Souls up until about Sen's Fortress which was 10x easier than I thought it would be. I think that's why I prefer the first half of the game when you and your character completely suck.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011
I don't think I ever even went to the Tower of Latria.
-----
Hit a road bump in Anor Londo. Those Silver Knight archers with the huge bows that fire arrows that look like full blown swords are just destroying me any time I get across that bridge outside the castle. Getting over the bridge is fine. It's when I get onto the ledge that's the problem. It's so narrow that there's little room to manoeuvre.
I initially went left to try and take out the archer over on that end, but I just got shredded from the archer on the right pumping my back full of arrows. And of course if I try and turn to block those arrows, the archer on my left will take over because my back is obviously exposed to HIM then.
After that I tried going after the archer on the right first, which I figure is what you're supposed to do since the archer on the left can't seem to reach you from his position (once you start heading right, anyway. Stay on the middle of the ledge and you're fucked from both ends). Guy on the right just keeps loosening off arrows point blank, though, and by the time I get close enough to force him into switching over to sword and shield (assuming I even manage that before one of the arrows knocks me off the tightrope of a ledge), my guard is practically shredded. I also can't seem to kick anybody in this game. I keep checking to see if I'm doing it wrong, and as far as I'm aware I'm doing what's required in order to kick someone off a ledge. And yet the only time I ever do it is by accident when I'm trying to strike someone. The only time I managed to get the knight off the ledge was when he swung at me and my shield knocked him back, but then for some stupid reason I wound up falling off right after him and I just shut it off at that point.

Keep rolling towards the one on the right and try to maneuver past him. Don't try and kill him. Just get past the corner and you are home free. Are you using the bonfire near the bottom of the rotating spiral stairs?
