Pretty awesome to see that possibly my favourite game ever has what looks like a fairly active thread here. Anyone here tried any challenge runs?

The closest thing I've done to a challenge run is a daggers only playthrough... I had a ton of fun with that one. I don't do those SL1 runs or anything because it takes away my favorite part of the game which is building the character.

Was this one of those infamous wasted Croft posts. Could have sworn I saw something about beating that motherfucker Nito in 20 seconds with Soupbro lol.

Its only tough because I play like a barbarian. I dont even try to kill the skeletons because Nito's attacks do that for me. I use magic weapon, take a green blossom and 2hand the him till he's done.

Yeh fair enough I get that. I tend to like to mix it up. I've done both SL1 and SL3, but at the moment I'm doing just a normal playthrough but with a strength build, because I've never done one before. Usually when I do a non-challenge type playthrough I always tell myself I'm going to try something new, but then end up reverting back to a dex or quality build.

Daggers only sounds interesting. I assume the Hornet ring and Priscilla's dagger play a fairly large part in that style of playthrough?

The only challenge I've done so far is actually telling myself to finish the game. Which I did. So I'm proud of that!

Haha yeh I remember how I excited and chuffed with myself I was when I first finished the game...fuck that, how excited I was when I beat the first boss (and then basically every subsequent boss after that). There's a sense of achievement you get with Dark Souls that you just don't get with most games.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Agreed. I'm still amazed at some of the bosses that I've defeated. Still can't believe that I actually took down the Four Kings, or even Gwyn at the end. But a few parries and the bitch went down, simple really. But one of the easiest bosses, not counting Ceaseless Discharge, for me was Seath the Scaleless. I fought him twice but never actually died by him. Got killed by one of those fucking Oyster creatures that some how came into the battle area.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Yeah Seath is pretty easy, I'm actually fighting the boar right now as I type because I'm on my quest to kill Seath, I have 316,311 souls on me right now so bought 2 rings of sacrifice. I always felt getting to Seath was harder than the fight, my very first time playing I died tons heading to him and when I finally got to him it was the easiest right I had since Pinwheel.

Gwyn is also vey easy when you have Sunbro with you, thinking about it now he has to be the easiest final boss for a game I've played.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Yeah, those two boars before you get to the archives were annoying. Every time I tried to get round to the back they would just knock e down and kill me. Lost a few Souls trying to get through that area. Then the Archives... I tried to do that shortcut from the elevator but just failed miserably every time. Doing it the normal route was not as bad as I was expecting.

I've never actually had any help from anybody. That probably would have saved me a lot of time with a few of the bosses. But when you sort of get their patterns and timing of their attacks down, they can be simple. I thought it would take me forever to kill Sif, but I just stayed near his legs and rolled when ever he swung his sword.

Re: Dark Souls - October 4th, 2011

Only help I've really needed was against Ornstein and Smough. I'm complete garbage at dodging so I would get destroyed if I faced them alone, I tend to try to block everything. The Artorias fight was great for me because once he buffs up if you aren't dodging each and everyone of his attacks your dead. Can't wait to start the dlc, I've yet to kill the Hydra yet to save Dusk though.

So I've went through the entire Dukes Archives and Crystal Cave without dying once which is great because I didn't wanna become human and get invaded by idiots. While farming for Titanite Chunks I got something about the Gravelords popping up a couple times which got my heart pounding because from what I've seen someone fucking up your world makes it hell.

Has anyone used the crystal ember at all?
