500 arrows? That would take all day. I don't even want to try to melee with him. What level were you when you defeated him and did you melee?

Also. I still haven't rang either bell. Am I still far away from the point where I can learn wizard spells?

That the guy who sells the crystal shield right before the Gaping Dragon? Or the guy stuck in the barrel? I killed the barrel guy by accident.

If you didn't kill him earlier, he hangs out in Firelink Shrine by the firekeeper and then kills her. You find a stone that will let you invade his world. So I do that, beat him, get a small amount of souls, 5 humanity...and the best ring in the whole game. Ring of Favor and Protection. 20% Boost to HP, Stamina, and Equip Load. Fuck yeah. I also have Havel's Ring on so my Equip Load is 111.6 with 28 END.

You can get the ring as soon as you find Lautrec, but if you do it the way I did (invade his world in Anor Lando), you get his awesome armor too after beating the boss in this level. Also, you get an extra firekeeper soul by beating him later so you can upgrade your Estus Flasks. With this upgrade, it'll be Estus Flasks +4.

The only thing that sucks about the Ring is that if you EVER TAKE IT OFF, it breaks. So put it on the right ring slot and never touch it.
I could definitely use that ring but I don't think I am quite yet where you are. I might be close but I don't think I have gone back yet to see if he has killed her yet. I haven't dumped a single point into my stamina at all so I am only working with 9 points there. Like you I am currently running the Havel ring to supply my eq load.

Merchant who sells Crystal stuff. The guy you killed teaches you pyromancies.

Man, I wish I could go back to thinking 20,000 souls is a lot. Without farming and just playing through the game, I get at least 20,000 souls in 15 minutes. But then again, it takes 30,000 souls to level up right now for me (SL 70).

I did the cheap one shot kill after dying trying to melee him. The first bell is a little farther from the red dragon (you should have gone underneath him already to Undead Parish). You'll see a huge church. If you want to bypass some of it, go back to Firelink Shrine and with your back to the bonfire, go left into the middle of three doors. You'll find a guy that will teach you miracles (get Heal ASAP) and then a staircase that will lead to an elevator up to the church. Go to the top of it (be wary of some tough enemies) and you'll fight the boss.

The sewers has the person who teaches you Pyromancy and I forget where I found the guy who gives you Sorcery. After meeting/saving them, they usually all go back to Firelink Shrine and sit around like bums. Also, you can find Lautrec in the church behind a wooden wall. Don't kill him, just release him. If you want to kill him at Firelink Shrine or not, let me know and I'll tell you the benefit of doing either.

After you jump attack him from the ledge, just circle strafe him and stay behind him. Wait for him to attack, and hit him once or twice.

Rinse and repeat.

Otherwise, If you pick the Black Firebombs as you're gift you can kill him before you even get a sword and shield. And you get his hammer.
