Man, I wish I could go back to thinking 20,000 souls is a lot. Without farming and just playing through the game, I get at least 20,000 souls in 15 minutes. But then again, it takes 30,000 souls to level up right now for me (SL 70).
500 arrows? That would take all day. I don't even want to try to melee with him. What level were you when you defeated him and did you melee?
Also. I still haven't rang either bell. Am I still far away from the point where I can learn wizard spells?
I did the cheap one shot kill
after dying trying to melee him. The first bell is a little farther from the red dragon (you should have gone underneath him already to Undead Parish). You'll see a huge church. If you want to bypass some of it, go back to Firelink Shrine and with your back to the bonfire, go left into the middle of three doors. You'll find a guy that will teach you miracles (get Heal ASAP) and then a staircase that will lead to an elevator up to the church. Go to the top of it (be wary of some tough enemies) and you'll fight the boss.
The sewers has the person who teaches you Pyromancy and I forget where I found the guy who gives you Sorcery. After meeting/saving them, they usually all go back to Firelink Shrine and sit around like bums. Also, you can find Lautrec in the church behind a wooden wall. Don't kill him, just release him. If you want to kill him at Firelink Shrine or not, let me know and I'll tell you the benefit of doing either.
