General Gaming Discussion

There a hundreds of video games out there that represent a significant piece of gaming history and many of these are still relevant and fun for even the most experienced of gamers. This group project will help us all explore the best games history has to offer while collectively sharing our experiences with each other.

In order to have both an organized “game plan”, I thought a retro gaming club (similar to a book club) would be a nice solution to help grow the community, and spice up the video games section.

The main concept of this project is to have a designated game that every participant would play over a pre-determined period of time. Once everybody has spent time playing the featured game, everyone can give their thoughts on what they liked or disliked about the gameplay, how it holds up to today’s standards, and how it influenced later games. You can also share high scores and help other members with tactics you have learned. Even with well-known games, devoting some time to them again could give us a fresh perspective and help us re-discover some fun moments from our past.

The time devoted to each game may vary depending on its complexity or length. A week may be enough time to spend on simple games like Pong or Asteroids, but more complex or story-driven games like Metroid or Chrono Trigger may require two weeks for most people to fully experience.

With each featured game selection, there will be a bit of background information, links to helpful guide or tips, and some goals that might be worth achieving. Everyone will then be invited to jump right into the game and share their thoughts as we progress through it together.

If there is a game you wish to be featured, please PM me any ideas you have

Re: The Retro Club

It's 2020, and a slew of nuclear explosions has rendered New York City a smoldering heap. The city has issued an ordinance that no one can enter or exit the contaminated city. High above, in the lone remaining skyscraper, a mad scientist is conducting experiments on helpless, mutated victims, transforming them into killing machines. The government has hired you on as a mercenary to exterminate the hordes of gun-wielding beasts that are polluting the city no small task, to be certain. Luckily, you have a partner, and together you are known as Two Crude Dudes. Pick up enemies, weapons, and other objects, then throw them, utilize them, or just crush them to bits. Cool graphics and sound effects make this one powerful experience.

When discussing you will share your experiences, how it compares with the first time you played it (presuming you did), how much fun you had or did not have. You could also comment on how the game was innovative or how it translates to modern games. Do you see any similarities? Any aspects of the game that you notice have been implemented into modern games?
Please remember your commenting on an OLD game.
All this as well as the generic - Graphics, Story, Music, Presentation etc etc.

Here is the link to the emulator and rom!

Re: The Retro Club

For whoever PM's me with their scores on games. The scores will be totalled and added to this leaderboard. There are monthly prizes of 100 million points for first, 50 million for second and 25 million for third. All scores are reset each month. A screenshot of your scores need to be provided for the score to be processed.

Re: The Retro Club

As a collector and hardcore retro games player, I'd love to take part.
Got a few good suggestions for ROMs too...

The greatest trick Hulk Hogan ever pulled was convincing the world he could wrestle.
And like that...he was champion.

Re: The Retro Club

Count me in . I am currently getting into retro gaming, so this should help me see what are some must own games, and what I should stay away from . Plus I already have a crap load of ROMS for multiple consoles.
