Re: General Gaming Discussion
Have you guys been paying attention to the Valve lawsuits in Germany? This is the 3rd time (other two times the lawsuits failed) that they are being sued because of digital downloading on Steam. Some shitty consumer group keeps claiming its illegal to not let the people who download the games...resell them. Its completely back asswards and through the years and the several lawsuits they've shown a complete ineptitude and understanding of what they are fighting for and just come off ass "down with big business! we the people!" retarded shit. But I can honestly see M$ and Sony getting hit with a ton of stuff like that but about monopolizing the industry away and not letting retailers or specialty stores/rental places have their cut.
I know we all hate the idea of digital only games or always online, but to major publishers like EA, Capcom, Squeenix and even M$ and Sony, that is the dream. That is the goal they want. Where DRM is so inescapable that there are no illegal downloading, hacking, etc. and where everything is digital and they still own ALL rights to the game you "purchased". So if a time comes where you try and "sell" a used game, they can just say "nope you don't own it, we do, so....delete!" and you don't have the game anymore, period.
Edit: Riot, good thoughts, but one flaw. If they don't want their games on Steam, they won't let them sell it. Like EA. They created Origin so they could make their own rules and make it so you HAVE to always have an internet connection (i.e. always-on DRM). The only place to buy an EA PC game digitally is either through Origin or through a retailer/website with a download code...to only play it through Origin.
