Re: General Gaming Discussion

Didn't read all of your post yet, but I skimmed for what was most important: Laptop or Desktop? Laptop you won't be able to build one for under $1,000...Desktop is possible but I wouldn't know the best stuff to get.

Edit: I think Target has $60 off the latest NVidia card. Not sure if the deal is still going. I'll check CAG.

Edit 2: NM, it was with Guild Wars 2 and ended on 9/1

Re: General Gaming Discussion

For video cards, you'll want to go with a nVidia GTX 6 series card instead of the power hungry ATI cards. I would advise the GTX 670 personally. Its cheap and relativley new.

Go for a 3rd Generation i7 processor.

Those will be the money eaters of your budget.

As for motherboards, any ASUS or Gigabyte motherboard is generally considered to be good quality.

A good motherboard for what you need.

I mentioned NVidia before because, like Booned said, they are the best. The latest NVidia is insanely impressive. I've been seeing performance demos of it using Borderlands 2 and it is fantastic. Really outshines anything possible on consoles currently.

Edit: Awesome, when looking for those videos, found this: http://www.geforce.com/landing-page/...-borderlands-2

Looks like you can get Borderlands 2 for free when you buy any GTX 660 or higher.

Edit 2: Found the video:

Re: General Gaming Discussion

Holy shit, those NVIDIA cards are expensive. I was hoping for something in the $199-299.99 range. Now, I'm not sure. Same with the motherboard. I had no idea they would be so expensive. I was looking at an Asus motherboard at Compusa for $89.99 which looked alright. Again, now I'm doubting it. Which processors are better? AMD or Intel?

Re: General Gaming Discussion

You can go with the 5 Series video cards, but you probably wont be getting ultra settings on Skyrim.

The i5's and i7's are far better than anything AMD has to offer at the moment.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

Okay, so judging by your suggestions, I've narrowed processors down to two.

Intel Core i5-2320 BX80623I52320 Processor - Quad Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 3.0 GHz (3.3 GHz Max Turbo), Socket H2 (LGA1155), 95W, Fan - 189.99

or

Intel Core i7-2600K BX80623I72600K Unlocked Processor - Quad Core, 8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 3.40 GHz (3.80 GHz Max Turbo), Socket H2 (LGA1155), 95W, Fan - 299.99

As for as video/gfx cards and motherboards go, I'm still debating. I don't care for overclocking, however, so I'm not interested in something that can overclock.
