1. Its made by fucking Cavia. You might as well burn your $60.
2. There are reviews for a reason. If they say they are bad, guess what, the game is bad.
3. Rent it first then.
4. CAVIA! They are worse than Treyarch.
Save your money for Alan Wake, Prince of Persia, Red Dead Redemption, Split/Second, UFC 2010, Alpha Protocol, Singularity, Quantum Theory, Crackdown 2, Mafia 2, Dead Rising 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Lost Planet 2, Skate 3 or Modnation Racers.
Edit: A 6/10 score made you want it more? You know what, you might as well get it then. I'm just trying to save you from buying it, playing it, then regretting it.
Rent it first. There's no multiplayer or anything after the single player I heard, so be wary about a 15 hour game that is getting bad reviews.
Edit 2: Or wait a week. I'm sure Booned will have played it by then.
To those who loved this world...
and knew friendly company therein...
this Reunion is for you.
I can't buy it right now even if I wanted to actually. Work is eating all my game time to the point where about 7 of my good friends removed me off their friends list and left me a message telling me to re-add them when I'm active on Live again. It will be a good three weeks before I even get remotely close to buying it. Like I said in an earlier post, it's not something that I see as a must-have. It just sparked my interest, which is something 3/4 of the games nowadays fail to do. I'll probably end up buying three games when work dies down, finish them and then trade two of the new releases back in to get it. I'm a GSW anyway.
Now, it's not the 6/10 that made me want it. If I paid attention to scores that reviewers give games rather than the content of said review, I'd have bought many games that I'd regret buying, and have missed out on many that I would have loved. Mirror's Edge and FUEL got some pretty shitty reviews from a good number of sources, but I loved both. Three weeks should show me enough opinions. Even though my GSW qualities will make me want it for some stupid reason.
I'll buy Nier when SE reduces it in price. I don't care much for reviews. I hardly put stock in 'em. Lost Odyssey, a game many deemed average, was my favorite game of 2008. If I had gone on reviews alone, probably would've never bought it. Same with the Dynasty Warriors series, which I already know what to expect. You enjoy what you enjoy. Right now, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Modnation Racers, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will keep me busy for awhile.
Ok, I decided to be the guinea pig for once and I went out and got Nier.
So far, it buries every other game Cavia has brought out. It's fairly good. I wouldn't recommend it as a must-buy, but it's still a good bit of fun. The boss fights so far have been spectacularly fun, and the combat while fairly shallow still provides a good kick here and there. The magic attacks are a riot though. Seeing a doppelganger of Nier tear through your enemies leaving a blood trail behind them is just brilliant to watch.
The environments aren't nearly has bland as people said either. And the graphics aren't as bad as I expected. My only complaint is that the fishing is a fucking pain in the ass.
The voice acting is also superb. I'd play this game even if it was a shitfest just for the voice acting of the Grimoire Weiss character. It's truly, truly fantastic. Probably some of the most entertaining voice acting I've heard in the past 2 years.
I'd say this would be a good buy when it reduces in price.
