What recent games have you purchased?

Edit: I loved Borderlands. Its a looter RPG/FPS. Think Diablo meets Road Warrior with FPS controls and RPG leveling and inventory. Tons of replayability. The co-op is fantastic.

I'd recommend checking out the GameTrailers review first.

I've strayed away from buying games in the past year with subscribing to Gamefly, but I do pick up the big releases here and there. I've basically played all the big releases so far this year, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, God of War III, etc.

IYO, how does Borderlands compare to something like Mass Effect 2. Bare in mind, I'm not nuts about the whole RPG genre, but loved that balance that was there in Mass Effect 2.

Borderlands plays exactly like an FPS. The RPG elements involve how much damage each shot does to an enemy, leveling up, building up your special ability, and inventory (weapons, grenades, mods, and shield).

The game is pretty much a giant excuse to go kill things and find new loot to use or sell.

You know, maybe that gametrailers review wasn't the best to explain it. Check out this IGN review instead:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip5o1TcIrFg

The only real cons with the game are few. Inventory management early on in the game can be hectic (you only get 12 slots for inventory, not including what you have equipped) and don't gain more for a few hours. Also, until you get a real hang of what makes each gun different and how each stat affects each gun, its hard to determine which gun to keep and which ones to sell. You can always ask us on here for help with gun/shield help.

More or less, if you liked the gameplay of ME2, imagine ME2 as an FPS but with mostly shooting.

Check out this gameplay montage:

For PS3. Basically Little Big Planet and Mario Kart meshed together.

Debuted at E3 last year and looks killer.

Edit: You really sold me on Borderlands. Gamestop sent me a $20 off coupon today so I might use that towards ModNation in the future.

True, but I don't mind the wait because I'll have stuff to play and it definitely looks worth it. Worse case scenario sees me pre-ordering from Gamestop.com then rent from Gamefly just to be safe and if I don't like it, just ship back to Gamestop for a refund.

Think I'm gonna go with UFC 2010, MLB 2K10, Assassin's Creed 2, and Borderlands for now. Then use my $20 coupon and the remaining couple bucks of trade-in on ModNation.

This semester can't end soon enough...

I'm getting a DS tomorrow and I am probably going to pick up 3 games with it. I am considering Chrono Trigger, Mario Kart DS and Spirit Tracks, any other recommendations?

The last game I purchased was NHL 2k9. Found it for cheap so I thought I'd pick it up. Not a huge fan of NHL so that's why I settled for last years instalment.

Bought it on Wednesday but have been so busy that I haven't had time to try it yet. Whole day off today though so it's going on shortly.
