Re: General Gaming Discussion
PES 2012 is terribad. Yes, it's a massive improvement over 2010 and 2011, but still light years behind FIFA.

The game still sells despite whatever reception it may receive in relation to FIFA. FIFA still sells more, no arguments about that. The groups that tend to buy Pro Evolution Soccer more are the Brazilian and Argentine visitors. The rest of the South Americans seem to prefer FIFA, though that's still a loose generalization (a lot of the Brazilians and Argentines we receive also buy FIFA with their PES). They all seem to love F1, though. And Call of Duty.
Games over in South American cost more than either the US or Europe, though (from what they tell us). That's why many of 'em come over to the States to buy their games (they're also from the same region game-wise, so it helps).
Can anyone from Argentina or Brazil clarify some of this information for me? Tourists aren't really a good indicator. Do games really cost as much as 200 or 300$ over there? Do you prefer FIFA over PES, or the other way around? Why so much love for F1?!

Re: General Gaming Discussion
i dont live in argentina or brazil but here goes.
taxes. the tariffs in these countries are huge. games that a few months old in america are being sold legit in these countries for about 160 american. xbox live only got introduced there last year, and there has been no price drop on 360's over there since release (at 1300-1500 american dollars).
brazilians in particular love their formula one. it's one of the biggest sports there along with football. the brazilian grand prix always draws huge crowds and they have developed numerous champion grand prix drivers, most notably ayrton senna. so yeah, it's huge over there, just like football. i presume fifa would be more popular, but it would be hard to get the game anyways.

Re: General Gaming Discussion
Ah, I see. They always seem to mention taxes when they talk about the prices of games. It doesn't help that countries like Venezuela have embargoes on games shipped from America (especially violent games or games that paint Venezuela or any other South American-looking country in a negative light).
I suppose that's why a lot of 'em buy their games over (much cheaper) here. However, I do caution 'em when they buy Used. They obviously can't come back and return the game. Some of 'em don't seem to care, though, even when the discs look like shit.

Re: General Gaming Discussion
That sounds like you could make a ridiculous mark-up buying and selling games there, even if you sold at a fraction of their prices.

Re: General Gaming Discussion
So, I went into the Blockbuster by my house today to learn that it's closing as of this Monday. There goes all my gaming rentals, basically. There is only one other place in this city now that will rent games/movies and for a city of 55,000, that's going to be a bitch considering there were 3 Blockbusters here in total and all 3 of them shut down at the same time, so everyone from all of the Blockbusters are going to be going to this one lone place now which is going to make getting things tricky. There also won't be any new type of rental place opening up because that type of business is dead, hence why Blockbuster went under in the first place.
Funny thing though, I rented Dead Island on Tuesday when it came out. I asked them if it was smart to get games in the day before they knew if they were even going to be there or not (They were going to find out Wednesday and I didn't go back until today which technically is Saturday because it's 3:50 am here but at the time it was Friday.....you get what I mean), to which the guy stated that a buyer was interested and they felt good about it so they got the games in. Well, they went under and my copy of Dead Island isn't due back until Tuesday and they will be closed by then, so thanks for Dead Island, Blockbuster.

Re: General Gaming Discussion
Yeah the Video Rental business has been killed by Netflix/Redbox/The Internet.

Re: General Gaming Discussion
Yeah, sucks for people like me who are fighting online to the death but eventually I will just have to convert. It will suck if somehow this other place closes, another place won't open. So then you got a pretty decent sized city with absolutely no place to rent anything. It'll put us in this weird in between space as time makes it transition all the way to where all game rentals are online as well. But this one place should see a huge spike in business due to the other ones closing. But then again if a massive chain like Blockbuster can close and this isn't a chain place, I dunno what kind of hope they have.
