Re: General Gaming Discussion
One of the comments I saw in the article had someone wanting Onimusha to become like a horror, Japanese version of Fallout 3 with a huge world. NO THANKS. That's not evolving for the sake of improving the game series, that's just changing for the sake of doing what everybody else is doing with their RPGs. I'd be fine if they made Onimusha a contained action experience similar to Ninja Gaiden, but with a much better story, with some horror elements like the first, and set during Tokugawa's reign as Shogun, since he's the one who succeeded Hideyoshi (Dawn of Dreams), who himself succeeded Nobunaga(1, 2, and 3). Since Soki is Tokugawa's biological son (Hideyoshi adopted him), it could play into the story. Maybe give it better platforming too, since Dawn of Dreams was kinda iffy on that front. I'd be fine with a game like that.
Resident Evil 5 did sell extremely well, but the critical reception was worse than Resident Evil 4, as was fan reaction. As for Street Fighter IV, they did streamline it and people ate it up, so there's some credence there, but overall, I don't want Onimusha to become something it's not (within the perimeters of the genre). At least with Resident Evil and Street Fighter, it was natural, and Street Fighter is a fighter anyway, so there's no much you can do on that front with change. Resident Evil 5 was a natural progression from the 4th, though.
I'm looking forward to that Asura's Wrath game, though, which looked like a jacked up version of Onimusha with more hack-n-slash.
