Re: General Gaming Discussion

One of the comments I saw in the article had someone wanting Onimusha to become like a horror, Japanese version of Fallout 3 with a huge world. NO THANKS. That's not evolving for the sake of improving the game series, that's just changing for the sake of doing what everybody else is doing with their RPGs. I'd be fine if they made Onimusha a contained action experience similar to Ninja Gaiden, but with a much better story, with some horror elements like the first, and set during Tokugawa's reign as Shogun, since he's the one who succeeded Hideyoshi (Dawn of Dreams), who himself succeeded Nobunaga(1, 2, and 3). Since Soki is Tokugawa's biological son (Hideyoshi adopted him), it could play into the story. Maybe give it better platforming too, since Dawn of Dreams was kinda iffy on that front. I'd be fine with a game like that.

Resident Evil 5 did sell extremely well, but the critical reception was worse than Resident Evil 4, as was fan reaction. As for Street Fighter IV, they did streamline it and people ate it up, so there's some credence there, but overall, I don't want Onimusha to become something it's not (within the perimeters of the genre). At least with Resident Evil and Street Fighter, it was natural, and Street Fighter is a fighter anyway, so there's no much you can do on that front with change. Resident Evil 5 was a natural progression from the 4th, though.

I'm looking forward to that Asura's Wrath game, though, which looked like a jacked up version of Onimusha with more hack-n-slash.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

Haha. Love cats.

Hopefully getting my PS3 back today after another YLOD. Had it repaired locally, but it's been working on and off for the past month. Luckily they gave a 3 month warantee so there's no extra charge. I'll be looking to get a Slim console by Christmas regardless. Need to finish Darksiders as I'm nearly up to the final boss but haven't been able to play the game in 2 weeks. Probably need an hour remembering controls.

I don't see how SF4 and RE5 are american jackasseries.

SF4 dumbed the controls and gameplay mechanics down tremendously and got rid of Street Fighter's traditional hand-drawn anime look and made it 3d and had all the fighters look like they were on steroids.

RE5 took RE4 and made it significently easier and shorter, made it more like Gears of War, and also made everyone look like they were on steroids.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

Street Fighter IV returned to the franchise's roots, SF2. So yeah, it's kind of step down compared to the overly technical SF3 but it's still 100% Japanese Vs-Fighting. The 3D makeover was necessary to attract a new and younger audience who thinks 2D graphics don't look good.

For RE5, I don't see how a game with no cover system has anything to do with Gears of War. I'd even say that RE5's archaic gameplay is what makes it very Japanese.

Anyway, the fact is when Japanese studios release a very Japanese looking game, people don't buy it (see Bayonetta). So I'm not surprised they try something a little different now.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

Bayonetta actually has done pretty well in sales,at least enough to warrant a sequel, and DMC did extremely well in sales in America,so not only is the reboot way too early,it's also unnecessary for now.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

I really didn't have a problem with RE5, I'm kinda surprised everyone seems to hate it so much.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

I didn't get the hate either. The only problem i had with RE5 was that Shiva was a dumb bitch who couldn't do crap right, her AI was horrible. Especially in that one level where you have to burn that blob.

Re: General Gaming Discussion

The AI wasn't great but I didn't have too much trouble with it except maybe during the endboss.
