Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*
Finished my first season, rollercoaster ride with Spurs. Only signing was Xherdan Shaqiri for £25m, but phwoar at his form. While Dawson was the unprecendented player of the season & Eriksen flourishing towards the end in my tactic, it was a very, very hectic first five months. Lots of anger, relief then more anger.
The long version, I had started with a 4-1-2-2-1 (4-5-1/4-3-3) in mind. Control, rigid to keep it a bit like how they play IRL. While inevitably it worked, player roles, player instructions, team instructions and formation shape were all terrible. IF(S), DLP(D) in the mid and a DLF(A). All of them were gone in the December shuffle. I also had to take the DM role and place it as an AM. DLF(A) into a P(A) and IF(S) into W(A). Two BWM(S) and the results came. Only four defeats in the New Year and went from 8th to qualifying for the Champions League on the final day and securing the FA Cup with a 7-3 victory (AET) against WBA.
TLDR, tactics failed and enough tinkering found the recipe.
So disappointed in striker performances. Defoe scored 10 in 27(12) and Soldado scored 10 in 27(6). Very reliant on Eriksen racking up 25 assists, Shaqiri scoring 18 and Lamela scoring/assisting 14 each. Next season should be brighter.
