Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Currently I'm fine with the match engine. Haven't grown tired or frustrated with it. I've seen 1-2 flaws but they aren't as occuring and frustrating as the original match engine. The best tips are, just look into whatever consistent problems you have. Because if they are consistent, its your tactic.

In a new file with Hallescher FC in 3. Bundesliga. Well, 2. Bundesliga now. Finished 3rd in my first season, predicted to finish 18th. Let 16 players leave on free due to contract expiration though. Had to massively rebuild. Now in a division with Koln, Hoffenheim, Hertha Berlin, Kaiserslautern with an entirely new team.

Not fun, 17th after 15 games. Paying a wage budget of £3m a year, when the rest of the division is on £9m average. If I stay up, shall be fantastic.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

The engine is still poor and it does need fixing but it's doubtful they'll do a ME and a transfer update patch at the same time, most like to get a transfer update first then another one in later Feb for the ME.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

It's weird seeing some of you talk about a match engine problem as in the entire time I've played it I've only noticed 2 or 3 glaringly obvious fuck ups that'd never happen normally. Nothing for a while either.

Been playing as Belgium recently. Tried out a flat 4-4-2 formation, haven't lost in my first 15 games - beat England 5-1 and Germany 5-2 in friendlies too. The team is;

GK - Courtois
RB Support - van den Borre
LB Support - Van Damme
CB Defend - Kompany
CB Defend - Vermaelen
RM Winger - Mirallas
LM Winger - Hazard (wide play changed to cut inside)
CM Ball Winner Defend - Fellaini
CM Advanced Playmaker Support - Witsel/Dembele
ST Deep Lying Forward Support - Mertens/Dembele
ST Advanced Forward - Vossen/Lukaku

I'm pretty sure I could achieve success with a smaller club side with this tactic as it works well against most teams/formations - only drawn two against overly defensive formations. The mentality is set to attacking and I never put it any lower as whenever I have I've conceded and for the first 15-20 minutes after half time I set the mentality to overload, usually grab at least a goal from that due to the opposition not being prepared for that. I do that no matter what the scoreline is either, whether I'm losing, drawing or winning 5-0, I'll still do it. I don't play rigid or fluid, just keep it balanced. I lower the high line to a normal setting and don't play the offside trap.

Pretty sure I'll win the World Cup with this setting then I'll find myself a club to try this out on.

I'm with Vader. I'm into 10+ years and ran into one or two match engine problems. Not bothered me at all really, it's cost me one or two goals but I have gone on to win the games etc.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

it depends what team you are. in my tottenham game, i had gone something like 43 games without defeat in all competitions before losing the COC final 2-1 to city. whereas at lille it was just a mess. i'd set my team up well, had them learn the tactic, first 3 games 6-2 loss to bordeaux, 5-1 loss to reims and a 6-0 loss to troyes. there were just mistakes everywhere, balls going through the keeper, fullbacks not marking, players barely chasing, losing all the 50/50 balls, etc etc. it can either be really good, or really bad.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

After a terrible first half to the season, 17th after 17 games, led a herculean turn around, in which I succumbed to only 4 defeats in the final 17 games, to finish 9th in the 2. Bundesliga. Feels an incredible feat, down to the amount of renovating in the squad, the prediction of my first season (18th in the 3. Bundesliga).

With a profit of £7million, 40% of my turnover, little bit more cash into the wage budget. Bring on next season, add in about 5-8 players, at least 2-3 key, marquee signings, and I expect to get 6th.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Does the match engine change depending on how you view the matches? I never watch them in 3D and like I said, I've not encountered anything problematic.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

I am a good player not my fault it's unrealistic and broken and you just exploit it and use easy teams so you always win RUSH
