your fullbacks. they're terrible. i'd push your defensive line back, play wide and on the counter attack. i dont think your players fit a fluid type of game either (without having stats in front of me). carroll as a complete forward is strange. be more direct in your passing, dont be cautious with your tackling, and don't have them roam. i'll quickly open up fm for a bit more.
guzan - i presume you're okay there, i also presume he improves later on (only jan 2013 in my stoke save)
warnock - okay. low marking, decent pace, not much of an attacking defender or a proper defender. plus is he still on 40k a week? could get someone much better, at least at either defending or attacking.
vlaar - meh. low concentration, decent marking/tackling, kinda strong, rather average overall.
donk - average. good tackling/marking, strong, horrible concentration, quite slow.
with those 4 i'd be playing a deep defensive line due to the lack of pace and train up donk's concentration otherwise it will kill you vs top class strikers. hell, even middle of the road strikers.
weiss - i like him. i've just signed him on a pre contract for stoke. good speed, good dribbling, nice flair, good technique and decent crossing. definitely something you can work with.
makoun - rubbish. get rid. has no redeeming qualities. low creativity, low strength, not fast, no real technical attributes, what exactly is he meant to actually do?
mcarthur - a strange signing. his passing is good but there's not much else. kinda creative, not fast, weak. i guess his teamwork mixed with passing and work rate can help. certainly a lot more than makoun. would start him next to defour.
bannan - you'd hope he's better than what he is on mine. wouldn't play him out wide at all. fast, but not much else. passing is good, so is creativity, decisions are poor though. low team mate and work rate, unlikely to track back and cover a defensively weak fullback. i presume you come under a lot of fire from the left hand side.
midfield is kinda meh too. makoun has no redeeming qualities, mcarthur at least works hard and bannan has pace. weiss is probably the best (other than defour who should be your number 1 midfielder based on your signings)
carroll - i rate him, and he's quite good in game if you can get things working. strong, has a good leap and heading. his finishing and first touch are on the same level as torres (who still scores). good team player and hard worker too. good addition
bent - pace. but i don't rate him. good finishing but there's not much else to write home about. kinda strong, anticipates well and is determined, but a shocking first touch, creativity and dribbling make it hard. if his finishing was 2 higher i'd say he's an excellent poacher. but at 15 it's just hit or miss.
feels weird picking apart another team when i have a starting combination of adam/whitehead in centre midfield. but that's just what i think. there's plenty of areas to strengthen and english talents arent really going to get it done. i also have no idea why you once signed rory delap. hasn't made a league start for me
but yeah, just set up a tactic you find works, and find players to fit that tactic. im currently running a rigid 4-5-1, adam as a b2b mid and whitehead as a ball winning mid, with nzonzi as the anchor man behind them. shawcross and huth are excellent cb, excellent defensively, and because neither are fast, i play the deep line. marc wilson and mattia cassani as the fullbacks, mattia goes forward while wilson is more defensive. urby emmanuelson and pennant on the wings, both are absolutely excellent, pacy, run at players and quite often beat them. both can also cross the ball, where crouchy is waiting. the team is direct, disciplined creatively, aggresive with their tackling, man marking and stick to their positions, play a wide game and have regular tempo, while playing on the counter attack due to the deep line i play. currently 4th after 20 games, 9 points off 1st placed arsenal and 3 ahead of 5th placed liverpool.
all in all, just look at the strengths of your players, and design a tactic to fit their strengths.
