That United game I mentioned?

I'm in 2023 now.

Only player remaining from when I started the game is Phil Jones.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

I always try to get a flexible squad so there's cover for every position, with my Genoa save my main tactics are...

Standard Attacking 4-4-2, FB's set to Automatic, two regular CB's, two Wingers with Support, one CM with defend, the other CM a Deep Lying Playmaker with Support or a Box to Box (depending on who's playing) then two Advanced Forwards.

4-2-3-1/4-5-1 attacking/control (again depending on who plays) with the same backline as above, an Anchor Man at DM, box to box and DLP with support, then two Wingers with attack and an Advanced Forward.

Finally an attacking 3-5-2 variation, with 3 regular CB's, two wingbacks set to Automatic, 3 CM's (one a CM with defend, one box to box and one DLP with support) and then two Advanced Forwards.

All tactics have Press More, Drill Cross and Zonal Marking plus deep defensive lines, pretty much forcing teams to haul balls at Bocchetti/Bonucci/Sokratis/Chivu/Bovo/Granqvist etc or play through them. Works extremely well, score plenty and don't concede alot, tho do struggle to consistently keep clean sheets.

You could always google one the tatics that exploits all the holes in the AI, with the corner set up, 3 strikers, slow tempo, high pressing, etc

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Ok, so i'm a few weeks away from Euro 2012, and i've been drawn with Netherlands, Portugal and Scotland, so i'll have to get a result against either Netherlands or Portugal if I want to advance. The group of death is Germany, France, Italy and Poland. Oh, i've also been offered the Southampton job, and i'm not sure if I should take it. Thoughts? They'll be in the Championship but they have some good players (Clyne, Rodriguez, Lallana) and a transfer budget they offered me is 20,000,000. Liverpool finished 17th with 40 points which I quite enjoyed too. and Arsenal won the Treble and lost the Champions League final to PSG.

I'm unbeaten is the qualifiers and friendlies (opponents include Spain, Netherlands, Argentina, Bulgaria, Wales, Montenegro). Here is my 30-man preliminary squad (Rooney is out with a broken leg):

Goalkeepers Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City), Scott Carson (Bursaspor)

Defenders Kyle Walker (Tottenham), Micah Richards (Manchester City), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton)

Midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (FC Loreint), James Milner (Manchester City), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United)

Forwards Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Jay Rodriguez (Southampton), Danny Welbeck (FC Twente), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)

Frank Lampard is out for 5 weeks, so he might not make the cut, unfortunately.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

i'd have in there, and that's not a joke. in my 2015 city game, he's 33 and still playing for me as a very capable backup, he can play and of mc/dm/cb competently, recently played his 89th cap for england and scored the only goal. in game he's a better choice than parker, milner and lallana.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Jesus by 2015 i'd have a midfield of Rodwell, Wilshere, Cleverly... Barkley turns into a midfield monster as well.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Just selected my England squad, should have checked here first. Whoops.

I dropped Ox, Johnson, Rodwell, Lallana, Cleverley, Huddlestone and Rodriguez from my final squad. My starting line-up should looking something like:

---Hart---
---Walker---Terry---Ferdinand---Cole---
---Parker---
---Gerrard---Wilshere---
---Milner---Welbeck---Young---

Hopefully I can at least make the semi-finals and keep the job until Brazil 2014. I got the Great Britain job for myself too btw . Hopefully my squad for Brazil 2014 looks something like:

---Hart---
---Walker---Terry---Cahill---Baines---
---Rodwell---
---Wilshere---Cleverley---
---Chamberlain---Rooney---Young---

Yeh, I had a look at them, Hooper had 9 goals in 18 games for Celtic, and Graham had about 3 in 32. One of them might have made the 30, but Agbonlahor won the Golden Boot in the EPL, and Bent finished 5th...

thats another point fargerov, just because someone is good irl, doesn't make them great ingame and visa versa.
