Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Barca are fun once, but I get bored after always winning absolutely everything in the first season.
Its weird, my favourite games are ones where I don't win all of the time, and I am fighting against the odds.
Winning every game is boring, which is strange because thats what I'm aiming to do by improving my team right, win more games?

League 1 or championship is usually fun since you have a long term aim.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

I started a season this morning with the latest LFC Marshall database release, as Arsenal. I disabled transfer budgets for the first window and struggling to get a run of wins together, already been felled by City and Spurs...so yeah, quite realistic.

Finally got FM up and running again - have Southampton in the Premiership now and just signed Borini and Macheda on loan.

I don't like buying players i've used on previous saves. Kadlec, Pastore, Ganso to name but three.

Never bought Neymar or Gotze before.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

Went back to my United save, 11.3, summer update V06 (all but transfer deadlines).

Building a squad so far resembling;

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris/David de Gea

Defender (R): Rafael/Smalling
Defender (cr): Vidic/Jones
Defender (cl): Ferdinand/Evans
Defender (L): Evra/Fabio

Midfield (R): Darren Fletcher/Sergio Busquets
Midfield (L): Anderson/Tom cleverley

Attacking Midfield (R): Nani/Antonio Valencia
Attacking Midfield (L): Eden Hasard/Ashley Young

Striker (L): Wayne Rooney/Luuk de Jong
Striker (R): Gonsalo Higuain/Javier Hernandes

Felt compelled to go for Lloris & Higuain because I haven't really had a game with Lloris, and I had a tactic in particular which I wanted Higuain to play. Lloris cost me just under £50million, whereas Higuain cost me just under £95million. Surprisingly, I made a profit by the year end. I've had two absolute terrific regens come through. One seemingly the 'next Theo Janssen' (with 195 P.A) and the other a better Marc Albrighton (191 P.A). Those were the result of my youth recruitment. Brought in a few others, one destined to replace Vidic, hailed the next 'Desailly'.

Best players are Higuain, Vidic, Anderson, Valencia, Young & Rafael. Rafael is putting in an average of 10 successful tackles a game, Anderson is working in a tactic where Marek Hamsik played in the exact same role, and was very average. Valencia's surprised me more, since I played him in 18 games last season. Nani being first choice. Suppose Nani's PPMs ruin his average ratings.

The next 'big' signing I'll probably go for is Jack Rodwell, to replace Darren Fletcher, since hes in his 30s.. Busquets doesn't work out for the role.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

was inspired by seb to start a barca game. played about 7 liga matches, won 6 and draw 1, havent conceded a goal yet. only player i brought in was lahm and sold maxwell and a lot of fringe/barca athletic guys. villa is an absolute machine upfront

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

since i posted that screenshot, i drew 0-0 with zaragoza and lost 3-1 at home to madrid. i know everyone says barca is an easy game, and it is, but madrid are still a hell of a team on FM. having said that, i should still take the league with ease. doesn't help that messi, puyol, iniesta (twice) and now busquets have all had 1-3 month injuries.

messi has hit top form recently and i think villa has 30 goals already and i've not even finished the club world championship yet.

Re: *Official Football Manager Discussion Thread*

i've noticed that too. just beat benfica 2-1 away in the champions league group stages and iniesta will be out for 3 weeks. messi, xavi, alves, fabregas and pique have all been injured. barca's depth is incredible though. thiago, sanchez, masch, affelay, all very good players starting on the bench. fontas will easily replace puyol too in fm imo, the guy is pretty reliable already.
