How do fans and media predict the games that are coming to PSN for the free month deal?

I was just wondering about this and have done for a while really. I thought about it before but hesitated putting a thread about it however I thought you guys might know and maybe a few people have also wondered this too in the past?

Is it usually cause a new game is coming out a previous one is given free? For example, we've got South Park The Fractured But Whole coming so maybe Stick Of Truth would be given away free (this is coming with the game I think anyway but you get my point), or a better example would be Rainbow Moon being given away because Rainbow Skies is coming soon to get people into the game or is there some other way that they manage to do this?

I see sites all the time saying about predicted games from the community before they're announced and I've often wondered how they get their predictions?

Does anyone know or is it just completely random, surely they must have some criteria they are going by to get an idea, right?

Don't worry Heff, we can still have a nice Thanksgiving. I bought us a nice big vegetarian turkey. It'll be delicious!

It's just people guessing. Rarely is anyone right until something leaks like the German PSN store accidentally puts up an ad or the PSN website listing for a certain game will make mention of it early.

Also, you hesitating to make a thread?

Re: How do fans and media predict the games that are coming to PSN for the free month deal?

a great rule of thumb is if an indy game with some popularity, good vibes, goes on a PS+ only sale...the next couple of months it will be free. I've bought many games that go on sale, then a few months later it's free. this is highly accurate wiht Indy GOTY or highly rewarded games. Once you see them on sale about a year after release, you know it will be free the within the next few months. I base this on nothing but the my own experience. It's happened multiple times to me.

Otherwise, an educated guess. Time it's been on PS+, times it's gone on sale, recently announced sequels or DLC, etc...

Thanks. I thought there must have been more to it than just a straight up guess. They seemed to be going from something from what I could tell with some of the write up's when they're talking about their predictions.

I wonder what we'll get over the next few months then, I do like to discover things on there sometimes.

Re: How do fans and media predict the games that are coming to PSN for the free month deal?

1. When it's known what is coming it's because, as Seph said, a banner has leaked
2. Sometimes an indie game is released the same day as PS+ games (Rocket League, Furi, Tricky Towers etc), so you get speculation made that way
3. I don't remember any occasion where a game goes on PS+ when it's currently on sale, so you may as well remove them from guesses
4. And finally it's just a case of what sounds likely. Cult hit indie from 12 months ago is a million times more likely a AAA game

Yeah, the sale thing is huge conjecture and should be ignored.

Ah ok, ya see I guess it is all up in the air then really as even with this thread we're getting various answers. I have always wondered this because it's like those people writing the articles I would feel a bit weird writing an article all on guess work. For example this is a recent one here: http://www.autoworldnews.com/article...d-find-out.htm

That is so click bait cause it says 'MARCH 2017 PLAYSTATION PLUS FREE GAMES FINALLY REVEALED? FIND OUT MORE DETAILS HERE' - then you click it and it's just complete bollocks I think. Though I have no idea hence why I was wondering where they get their sources from or guesses etc.. like isn't there some substantial way to get an idea before they wrote these things, you would have thought so but I guess not?

Nah that site is talking out its ass. Seems last month they just regurgitated the PS universe website and said Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China, Lego Batman 3, Gravity Rush Remastered, Alienation & Shadow Complex Remastered. Now not all of them could possibly be offered but the fact none them were proves it was just a wishlist. Them passing it as "rumours" is nothing more than clickbait.

How am I supposed to know what is what and what's a good source etc... I don't sit and study these websites.

Regardless, if they wanted to be a great source they're not doing good job of it lol

I see, I wonder what we'll get for March then? I'm not even sure what I'd like to be honest, I wanted the Turtles in Manhattan game but it's been taken from the store and also I notice a few places have stopped stocking it already, possibly due to licencing expiring I think.
