How come Nintendo never made a "Super Mario 64" like game?

I couldnt say "why couldnt they make Super Mario 64 for gamecube and wii" cuz the internet is full of smart asses who were gonna go "it's called super mario "64" for a reason"

I always wondered why they never remade that game for Gamecube or wii?

I loved Super Mario Sunshine, but it wasnt the same....The Wii had Mario Galaxy

then Wii came out with Super Mario Bros, which was remake of the snes and gameboy games in a way...

So I think for the wii U they should make an updated game like Super Mario 64 in the mushroom kingdom

I think mainly because for the major 3D Mario games they always want to do something different with it on each console. Mario 64 in the Mushroom Kingdom, Sunshine on the... uhhh... Sunshine Island (I can't remember the location exactly lol), then Galaxy in the... Galaxy .

Yet to play Super Mario 3D World on Wii U but I'm getting that at the end of the week .

Imagine an HD remake of Super Mario 64, except re-imagined for modern tech, lawd .

I always considered Mario Galaxy a remake of Super Mario 64 to the highest extreme.

I meant on Wii U, and as more of a re-imagined successor than an actual remake.

This. SM64 DS is effectively SM64 rebuilt from the ground up (much like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is of TLoZ: OoT), as shown in the following example:

I have a copy of both games and I can say that SM64 DS did a fantastic job in following the original's footsteps.
