We all have probably heard of a metal gear game as gamers,if not it is essentially a series known for its stealth mechanics, fighting mechanics and storyline. The series sort of died for me when I completed 4.
It was like a sour taste had been left in my mouth but I could not bring myself to admit it til around now.
It's the idea that characters could suddenly become insanely stupid at times such as the entire role of Naomi Hunter.
Spoiler for Naomi hunter background:
Naomi Hunter's parents were killed in mozambique by Frank Jaegar(gray fox) and the whole point of her vengeance in the first game is to kill people for her goal of vengeance which she sort of attains in the first game by having fox die and liquid die. She then goes into hiding or whatever and leaves snake with two dangerous biological weapons in his body, foxdie and nano machines.
Spoiler for h:
Then in 4 she is working for liquid to destroy the computer ai's control of soldiers through nanomachines which leaves them brain dead so she is still evil. Then suddenly she becomes good for some reason and helps snake. She is then in south america still clearly working for liquid and injects snake with more dangerous crap which snake consents to.
Spoiler for Naomi: the bitch:
Solid Snake becomes brain dead at points such as when he trusts Naomi and when he crawls through a microwave vent but Naomi is badly written because she is no double agent, she willingly goes with the enemy(snake and otacon) and then proceeds to have a change of heart in which she regrets everything and then proceeds to otacon. Then she magically switches back to an evil character as usual this is tired out by now and she reveals she likes vamp. Then snake kills vamp and she blabs about how she invented a regressor for cancer but kept it to herself and only slept with otacon because he was a nerd. Then she proceeds to say how vamp( a man who was a badass with a regenerative ability due to genetic engineering and nanotech) are the same which is bull-cuck considering she betrays vamp and gives snake a syringe to kill him which makes sense considering nano-machines are keeping his body together so when his nanomachines are stopped he will die While Naomi has regressed cancer.
Spoiler for ending synopsis:
When you play act 4 and you have played the series fully you don't cry for the Naomi character at all because she was a bitch the entire time killing innocent people, starting wars, helping an international terrorist plot the worlds destruction back into the stone age.
She dies by continuously injecting herself in-front of otacon and snake who does not give any fucks at this point and until she probably dies of nerve damage after injecting a needle into her neck like 5 times.
There are other niggles in the story with characters such as johnny sasaki who gets to marry
Spoiler for ,:
after only being with her for two weeks.
This game has alot of issues but the two main niggles I have are Naomi and johnny sasaki as characters and the complete full retard mode of characters when they do something like otacon, snake, raiden, drebin and meryl.
Played metal gear solid in 1999, metal gear solid 2 in 2001, metal gear solid 3 in 2005, metal gear and portable ops in 2006 and metal gear solid 4 in 2008.
MGS4 went off the rails when it became a third person shooter.

The story might be a little bit ridiculous, but the themes and the way they were presented were way ahead of their time. The game's content probably resonates more with people today than it did in 2001.
I really enjoyed the journey in this game and was a huge metal gear fan anyway. I agree about naomi and there were a fair few things wrong with the narrative. But I enjoyed the trip and was pretty sure snake was gna snuff it after that microwave thing.
Oh and that graveyard seen with boss. I marked hard at that.
Just a force of habit, I was encouraged to use the word "niggles" to emphasize something less important than "problems" so basically a less important issue than saying something was a problem. Something from A-level english which stuck.
