"3 million sales in a month lifts revenue and profit for Japanese publisher
The success of Monster Hunter 4 gave Capcom a much needed boost in revenue and profits at the midpoint of fiscal 2014.
As of October 15, 2013, the latest instalment in the enduringly popular franchise had sold 3 million units - little more than a month after its initial release.
Monster Hunter offered the only genuine triumph for Capcom's Digital Contents business. The console version of Resident Evil Revelations and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies on 3DS, "basically achieved projected sales," but no specific figures were provided. Lost Planet 3, however, fell below expectations, again with no figures provided.
For the six months ended September 30, 2013, Capcom earned 53.2 billion in revenue, up 16.9 per cent year-on-year. Net profit was 4.9 billion, an increase of 20 per cent over the prior year."
I've never played a Monster hunter game. Reviews on Metacritic seem hugely positive. Reason to buy a Wii U? Shocked that a new Zelda or Metroid isn't ready to go this fall, can't believe Nintendo didn't plan on that. It reminds me of Shadow of Colossus meets Dark Souls almost with giant bosses I guess, based purely on visual observation. Regardless, good news for Capcom.
Now Capcom, how about that Mega Man I-VII remake for the 3DS with some 16 bit HD graphics? Talk about a reason to buy a 3DS if I ever heard one. Toss in Bionic Commando too, thanks. The original.
Ya know, it's funny how I keep forgetting that Monster Hunter is like the Beatles of Video Games.

Monster Hunter, Street Fighter and Resident Evil is all Capcom has at this point. Monster Hunter is basically the GTA of Japan when it comes to sales.
And to answer your question, Monster Hunter is good if you like super challenging games and fetch quests. I would say it's 10x harder than Dark Souls and if you get Ultimate then you might need help online. The combat takes some time to get used to but it's a pretty good series.
