Re: Could you book TNA better than TNA?

I have to laugh at this thread. it's not just booking. from my reading here there are few people who understand what's going on. you're not booking wrestling, you're booking a TV show with wrestling. of the viewers TNA does get, maybe 80%+ are just as interested in the storylines and drama/entertainment than whatever actual wrestling is taking place. to most the best parts of a match are the start and the finish, what happens in between is meh whatever. most don't really care if it's a 5 star match or a 3 star match. it's not just about wrestling matches and who wins and loses.

This.

You have so many egos to deal with, as well as injuries and other things such as roster cuts, personal issues (Angle's rehab), and pregnancies (Taryn), which have effected TNA's storylines. They're actually not doing too bad considering all that as all their adjustments made sense. Also there are more TNA viewers than smarks and making it ROH-lite is not going to make it grow. I'm not saying that it should be 2010-2011 quality, but last year and this year until all the cuts and unforeseen circumstances arose was the perfect mix of wrestling and entertainment, just like the era between Dusty's departure and Russo's rehiring in 2006. They've recovered nicely since No Surrender though as it could have been much worse.

Well to start off I would've never had Joe put a tire mark on his face, start a Nation of Violence while running around with a machete only to be kidnapped by ninjas...

Oh yeah. It happened.

I said yes. So your statistic of 'all' is invalid. I have plenty of booking experience in the real world. And Steen and The Wolves wouldn't be anywhere near my hit list.

But you're partially right, I'd want to completely rebuild the roster because most of what's there is old, stale and uninteresting. I'd be looking for guys to bring in to freshen up the product. I'd be looking for young talent that I can package into something special, or guys that have been horribly misused elsewhere.

I'd want five or six new tag teams, and to completely overhaul the undercard with guys that were worth the investment, to slash the wage budget to about a fifth of what it currently is and to make the KOs more of a focal point.

Once I had my talent in place, I'd book Slammiversary. And work backwards from it. What would I be working towards? Well, fag-packet booking - so no real thought - I'd make Slammy 2014 a four-hour show looking a little like this:

Quote:
TNA World Heavyweight Title
Bully Ray (c) vs. Kurt Angle

TNA World X Division Title
Austin Aries (c) vs. Kenny King vs. AJ Styles

TNA World Tag Team Titles
Full Metal Mayhem

The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Rockstar Spud & John Morrison (w/Rob Terry) (c) vs. Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian

TNA Knockouts Title
Queen Of The Mountain Match

Gail Kim vs. Velvet Sky vs. Taryn Terrell vs. ODB vs. Mickie James vs. Lei D'Tapa vs. Brooke Tessmacher

TNA World Television Title
Abyss (c) vs. Mike Bennett (w/Maria)

Career vs. Career for control of the company
Jeff Jarrett vs. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan (w/Dixie)

Sting vs. Bobby Roode

James Storm vs. "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero

Mr Anderson vs. Magnus

Ultimate Submission Match
Samoa Joe vs. Vordell Walker
So, there are new faces there, there are old faces there. There are probably one or two faces missing (with good reason.) But I could set that in stone as the Slammiversary card right now AND book the company there from Impact to Impact, PPV to PPV. And I make you want to watch every step of it.

For example, to make this work, I need to do the following groundwork in the next eight months or so:
  • Convincingly turn Hogan heel and align him with Dixie.
  • Bring Jeff Jarrett back to TV.
  • Bring in, and establish, Vordell Walker as an unstoppable submission expert. And build Joe up as the only guy who can stop him.
  • Reunite The Guns, The Hardys and put Morrison and Spud together with Rob Terry. As heels.
  • Introduce Mike Bennett as a heel but, more importantly, get Maria over as an intelligent heel manageress.

That may not seem like much, but it's enough for me to fill four-to-six months with.

Absolutely. I'm sure the vast majority of people here could too. It truly amazes me how horrible the TNA writing is. They actually managed to surprise me by defying basic logic week in and week out. Well, at least when I still watched.

Re: Could you book TNA better than TNA?

Perhaps. It's booking wrestling, not some overly complicated equation that takes the greatest minds in the world to assess. As long as you have competence and the realization of a plan, it wouldn't be the hardest goal to complete. For example, I would have Styles actually appear that he's feuding with Bully Ray & not Dixie Carter. Backburner it (Dixie Carter feud) enough to follow BFG once Styles wins, as opposed to letting it overshadow the match like it has. Promotion wouldn't be fixed with one problem alone, but that's one simple area to where a scenario would already be better than it currently is. I'm not delusional enough to say "oh hell yeah I'd be better than TNA is". I'm only realistic enough to put confidence in the situation that what TNA is giving this year, is very poor & almost feels as if any tom, dick or harry could come in and match the quality - if not improve it.

The real goal here is competence. Put that into the product & the rest would almost fall into place. Talent is there. Once you give them a path, it shouldn't be a challenge. Simplicity would be a welcomed change atm too.

It's just a classic example of why the TNA "marks" get branded with insults b/c they're taking a completely hypothetical thread way too seriously. Question was proposed, folks answered how they honestly feel, that's all. It isn't gonna happen. So, why care or have to make "lol @ these smarks and their comments" posts? Completely irrelevant.

Kudos to you for posting something. Doesn't look that bad actually.

I would say too many guys coming back that TNA may not be able to afford but that's a nice "dream card" I guess.

I think if you give TNA the 100-200k or so that you'd need for all this to go down (Talent wise) then they could probably do just as good or better though.

Good wrestling doesn't draw. If it did, WWE would be in the toilet.
