Re: Official TNA One Night Only Joker's Wild Discussion Thread (No Spoilers)
So I just got done watching the PPV. Not too good.
I felt like I was watching the same match over and over again. It was just a bunch of by the numbers tag matches. The only one that really stood out to me was the Park/Roode Vs. Robbie/Ion match because it was one of the only matches that provided a unique pairing and took advantage of the gimmick of the PPV. Park/Roode made for a pretty hilarious duo. Never forget: LAW AND ORDER! Chavo/RVD Vs. Joe/Daniels had some solid action and after an extremely boring start, some of the antics in the Terry/Morgan Vs. Snow/Ryan match were kind of funny. Other than that though, everything just sort of fell flat.
It was also pretty obvious who was going to win each match. It felt like each match had known stars against losers and non regulars. Clearly the big stars were going to win all of these. One of the top faces in the company James Storm Vs. Gunner & Crimson, two guys who haven't been on TV since 2012. Gee, I wonder who will win that one. Former World Champ Mr. Anderson against two guys that aren't TV regulars at all. Hmmmm. World Champ Bobby Roode & Pushed Character Joseph Park Vs. X Division Jobber & Low Card Jobber. Again, I wonder. Top villain Aces & Eights (WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF THAT, HUH?!?!) against Hernandez and a gut chuck dude. Yeah, I was in suspense over that one. Then you had Morgan & Terry, the two big guys, going up against the old vet & the lowcard dude, both of whom feuded (admittedly a unique pairing though). That one was obvious. The only one that was up in the air was Joe/Daniels Vs. Chavo/RVD because that one, on paper, at least looked somewhat even.
It was also clear that this was filmed months ago with guys not carrying title belts they currently hold, Anderson not in Aces & Eights gear and even playing babyface, Rob Terry being called Robbie T, and Joey Ryan/Matt Morgan still tag partners. It was pretty bad in hiding that.
Tenay & Tazz seemed to try and emulate Bobby Heenan & Gorilla Monsoon at the booth, sort of just telling jokes during the show since they knew it was unimportant. The difference? The Good Job/Bad Joke ratio was far better with Heenan & Monsoon. Tenay & Tazz were just AWFUL!
Some of the promos were funny, like Daniels interaction with Joseph Park. However, there were some bad ones too. Like why did Jesse think that Anderson would help him when Anderson dropped him with a mic check in the earlier match? So he's an idiot?
Then we come to the Gauntlet finale, which was pretty standard as far as that type of match goes. Storm won, sent the fans home happy, and la-di-da, that was it. The only really cool thing about it was Roode/Storm starting it, the Beer Money spot, and then closing with them before the finish.
The X Division PPV was alot of fun and actually had some interesting matches. This was just repetitive and boring. It felt like a long episode of a C-Level wrestling show like Velocity or Xplosion. I wish they had spiced it up with guys like Austin Aries, Kaz, Kurt Angle, Magnus, and a couple others besides the likes of Jesse Godderz, Alex Silva, Al Snow, & Rob Terry. That might have made it more exciting.
