Default TNA the best wrestling product but not getting the ratings - why?

I do agree with everyone saying TNA is the best wrestling product right now by far.

But why dosent it getting the ratings it deserves?

Do they need to change network? Change from Thursday to another day?

That's the two biggest questions now.

But maybe they need to change from Spike TV.

Something need to happend.

I cant believe how people miss this great product right now.

WWE brand loyalty is a big part of it. A friend of mine said something to me a few weeks ago. He said that one thing TNA will never understand is that all wrestling fans are WWE fans, but not all WWE fans are wrestling fans. TNA currently gets the wrestling die hards that will watch all the wrestling they can get their hands on. WWE has a built in audience that probably got into it at a young age and are loyal to that as the only form of wrestling they enjoy. TNA and any other wrestling company that wants to match WWE will have to contend with that.

As of right now, other explanations for TNA's ratings come out of where they were in the past. Remember what the show was like in 2010 & 2011 when Hogan & Bischoff came in? For the most part, it was fucking terrible and did a lot to turn off fans & potential viewers. Since then, yes, they have gotten much better, but they still have to wash off the stink of 2010 & 2011, and that is hard to do.

Another thing to keep in mind is the competition they have on Thursday nights. The last few weeks they've gone up against March Madness, which is stiff competition for anybody, and there are also shows like Big Bang Theory (the number one rated comedy on TV) that are right in their time slot. And then consider the network they are on. SpikeTV's programming isn't exactly high caliber stuff. I remember when they were on Saturday nights in 2005 and there this horrible fat rednecks show that I believe was their lead in (might have followed them, I don't remember). They don't really have much surrounding them to get a rub from so they pretty much have to maintain an audience on there own, which again, is tough.

What ratings should they be getting?? WWE's? Even those are not great. Wrestling itself is not in good shape at the moment. Just enjoy the show.

I live in the UK so not sure how its marketed in America but over here there are wrestling fans who don't even know TNA exists! Myself included up until a couple of months ago.

And its available on a channel for free! Unlike WWE where you have to pay for a sports package. Which is a unique selling point they should be promoting over here.

Your hardcore fans who just love wrestling for what it is obviously know, but personally It's the casual fans they need to get on board now as they are the majority unfortunately.

I'm 99% sure that, i read TNABBC & TNA Impact had more viewers than raw and Smackdown put together in the UK.
TNA is also the most watched Program on Challenge. But, how many people actually watch challenge? i mean besides Impact theres absolute shite on there. If there was better programming on the channel then maybe with the advertisement they could have a rise in the amount of viewers they get.

I say they just don't advertise as much as they need to to bring a bigger audience in.

Funny. I remember them doing pretty good numbers during 2010-2011. They did 1.6-1.7 million often. The post BFG show in 2010 did 1.9 million viewers and in 2011 did 2.01 million viewers. In 2012 it did 1.25 million viewers. As shit as internet fans believe TNA was in 2010-2011, it was their highest rating years.

Advertising is a big reason. The marketing and advertising of the brand has been poor for years and I just dont get why they dont look at this area more. Look at the night Hogan came in, they advertised the hell out of it and it popped the biggest rating theyve ever done on a Monday night against Bret Hart returning to WWE. That was all because of the advertising and making people know Hogan was coming in. Now advertise that strongly for the show in a few weeks with Hardy/Ray for the title and they would see a good result. They are stacking the card but does anyone outside the IWC or casuals on the internet know about it?

Brand strength is the other major problem. They have fucked up so many times in the past and put out such bad storylines and payoffs that some fans are instantly put off by TNA without giving it a chance. They have been solid to great since the end of 2011 now but have to keep the run going and slowly fans will give them another chance.

WWE is obviously the powerhouse in wrestling but TNA shouldnt be thinking about how to steal fans, they arent in direct competition, no shows air on the same night so they dont have to make fans choose to be either WWE or TNA. All the marketing at being the alternative and everything WWE is not is stupid. Just concentrate on putting out a consistently good wrestling product, advertise it and the fans will come.

Ratings will come in the long run as long as they carry on the good work they are doing but actually advertise the product and how improved it is

That could possibly be true as less people have a sky sports subscription than a standard sky subscription or freeview. But the sad truth is WWE won't really lose out as they'll take a cut from sky anyway for being on their premium channels.

Again, this could be another reason wrestling on a whole is on a decline, not enough people have access to it (in the UK anyway).

I remember the early 00's / late 90s when you could get smackdown on a sat morning on sky 1, wcw on channel 5 on a Fri night and even channel 4 had some WWE ppvs!
