That's post russo WCW, not a surprise.
But before the fuckery they were pretty good in getting talent from mexico/japan and make them credible.

Both of those guys had better chances of getting over, because they had character, and they still didn't. Doubt, KENTA the generic wrestler from Japan will get over. He has no eye catching traits like (face paint, look) that stand out, his wrestling style is not something that will get quick pops, He has no mic work, He has an average look with boring ring attire.

Face paint = character? Okada was nothing but a generic jobber in TNA, now look at him on NJPW.
KENTA stands out at the first minute you realize he's going to kick your ass and make you tap like a bitch, no matter how big you are.
Something new that breaks the big fuck squashes shit angle, you can build him up as a submission specialist like Gracie. The yellow and brown attire is dead, please tell me you didn't just watch one or two matches from him in ROH and made your entire argument there.
This gimmicky shit is over, less in more.

Face paint is having a character. Exactly, Okada was nothing but a generic jobber in TNA and they were booking him exactly the same as what you're proposing from KENTA, The guy from Japan who can beat everyone's ass. Yes it didn't get over. His wrestling style didn't resonate with the fans.

Besides the guy in that pic wasn't Okada, That was Kiyoshi

KENTA has nothing in him that says he can kick your ass and make you tap, He has no charisma or look to make you actually believe that like the likes of say a Benoit did.

Again build him like a submission specialist like Royce Gracie. Eventually he's going to have to speak and show some character, some personality to get over, and that's where he will fail.

Gimmicks may be over, but personality isn't. A guy from Japan, who screams bland, isn't just going to get over because he's a good wrestler.

- Insane, if having face paints means having character then TNA might as well sign one guy with each color then they would have a fantastic roster with all these different "characters".
- LOL, how did kiyoshi get booked like he could kick everyone's ass? the dude was jobbing on webmatches.
- The guy on the pic was muta wannabe no.156.
- KENTA's wrestling abilities speak for themselves, you clearly haven't seen shit from him since 2006.
The guy single handily is carrying NOAH on his back because of his old school character and is by far one of the best submission pro wrestlers out there.

We can stay here talking all night, until this actually happens it's just speculation of what he might or not accomplish. I choose to have a open mind about it.

I do too. In a fantasy booking setting, where the world is perfect, and crowd reactions are fan made, KENTA could be a star. Sadly we don't live in that world.

No, The face paint, The asian mist, the facial expressions, the ring attire, Muta wannabe, yes but they still showed character. And Kiyoshi was being booked strong when he debuted in the company. The man was getting vignettes, and backstage interview. Go back to his run in 08 and TNA were booking him as a strong contender for the X-Division Champion. He was actually a decent mid-card heel, that I found semi-entertaining, him and Bashir actually.

Yes NOAH. In NOAH, its all about puroresu, where the best wrestlers get the most over. However this is the states, where things such as character is going to have to get over in a mainstream wrestling company.

Sign Kenta book his first match against Storm and have James look like who the fuck is this guy. Then Kenta destroys him and puts everyone in a shock. Next week it's Ion or King. Have him destroy everyone face and heel. Give him a manager and let him tear his way through leading up to a match with Aries and give them 20-25 minutes on a ppv and let them go all out and he will probably be over as fuck. Also he dosent need to speak just book with a manager and the angle that he is here to destroy all and prove he is the greatest wrestler alive and let the manager do the talking. Kenta vs Angel, Aries (again), Joe (again), Roode, Bully would all be great matches.

The idea that in japan "the best wrestlers get the most over" is a myth.
They have countless guys that may not be 5 stars makers but get a crowd reaction so they get pushed, the opposite also happens just like in the US with benoit and whatever. Tanahashi is no different from a super cena with more wrestling skills.
They also have their own guys with no mic skills, no character and no cool attire that get over (prince devitt) and others that fail completely. It's all about how you "book" them, a good wrestler with good booking get over... here, in mexico, in japan, etc.

Yes but for the most part Japan is still a work rate heavy company, where the best wrestlers still get over based on work rate.
