This. I'll admit it, the main reason I still watch wresting these days is for the storylines/characters. Entertainment. Though I'm not a WWE fan...go figure, right? ;-) Anyway...yeah...in 2010, Pope & Anderson = entertainment. They were seriously my top 2 reasons to watch Impact then (Wolfe wasn't far behind), even more than my WCW/NWO fanboy nostalgia due to the whole Bischoff thing. Which is amazing, considering I wasn't familiar with them from WWE at all (don't watch, nor did I know Wolfe from ROH). They were THAT good. Can't remember who my top guy was in TNA before they came onboard, I guess Sting and Raven, my original reasons to watch. Seriously thought Anderson and Pope could help TNA turn the corner. Sucks it didn't happen that way.
I wonder if Anderson just lost his hunger after he became champ, like maybe that was his top goal in wrestling and, after winning, he felt he achieved all he wanted to achieve, so he stopped caring/trying. At least he's heel now, though still not wowing me on the mic like he used to. And I don't see him as a follower. But while I know its cool to hate him now, I'm not ready to count him out yet.
The Pope...some of his critics say his gimmick's over the top, but compared to guys like Joey Ryan (who's growing on me, hehe), I just don't see it. I just see charisma...like a modern day Slick who can also wrestle. And maybe its just me, but I liked his angle with Devon and the kids. Though I tend to go for the crazier angles like that (reminded me of Raven and Sandman), psychological stuff like that interests me more than just 2 guys acting macho and butting heads over a belt or being the best or whatever.
Just found out he was let go via this topic...that sucks. They've let some really entertaining people go lately (Pope, Shelley, Kendrick, Winter). Sucks when storylines I'm into get no resolution...I thought those Russo days were behind us. But I guess no booker will ever push/properly use ALL the guys you want...it is what it is but maybe someday they'll be back. Also sucks that apparently his scenes in the Batman movie got deleted :-/ lol Did anyone see him in there? Because I've watched twice and haven't seen him yet.
Well...ranting aside, I'm normally a pretty positive guy, and at least guys like Aries, Bad Influence, and Park are still entertaining, plus wanting to know how Aces & Eights plays out, so I'll keep watching.

Honestly is good in ring skills really needed to be a main-eventer?

As for Anderson, I always felt he could have been huge. He had talent. He had the look. He had charisma. But he also has a GIGANTIC sense of entitlement not to mention a fucking awful work ethic. And that asshole thing was just retarded

A pope who's a pimp. It actually made sense considering the whole point of his gimmick was meant to be a preacher who was obviously using money, to buy materialistic things.

Re: Mr Anderson & The Pope
I think it just shows why WWE were happy to get rid of them both in the first place. Anderson and Pope looked like good finds on the surface but it's no coincidence that they both got fired, went to TNA and flopped.

WWE got rid of Anderson because Orton pretty much got him fired & Pope had attitude problems. Doesn't change the fact that they had talent.
And I wouldn't consider them flopping in TNA? They were wasted yes, but Anderson became TNA WHC, & Pope main-evented Lockdown with AJ Styles.

Re: Mr Anderson & The Pope
I'm not saying that they didn't have positive qualities but that the WWE obviously saw this coming. Pope was a disaster in the ring during his WWE days, coupled with his attitude problem, the signs were there. Anderson was injury prone as fuck and a pretty bland worker tbh.
They only got the spotlight in TNA because they still had that WWE shine. Once that worth off neither accomplished anything. Who remembers or even cares about Anderson's title reign? It sucked.
Could they have been bigger stars had TNA pushed them further? Probably, but how many chances does one person get. If Pope is running around backstage pissing everyone off, why would they continue to push him?
Mic work can only take you so far and that's really all either guy had/has.

tna pushed them both too hard, misused them. they weren't that conventional of wrestlers to begin with yet an x title run for pope and Anderson being a main eventer and eventual fall guy to AJ styles or someone, you have worse options
both of which can pull off with all the cretive freedom in the world in their promos and buildup so that both angles can have the slow burns that they need to used effectively instead of what we actually got
BUT AS FAR AS TODAY GOES, they both have used up their limited use anyway, too little too late

Unless you're already a huge name in the business, fan's won't pay to see someone who can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk. Even a top-star has a shelf-life if he keeps throwing in shitty performances.
It's all good being a good talker, but that only sells the match. As top-dog, you have to be able to set the bar to keep them coming.

I conceded to take this fight at 162 pounds because fatty couldn't lose any more weight. I will do Vargas a favor by retiring him in this fight so his family doesn't have to suffer every time he steps in the ring. I'm going to do his wife a favor and not let her cry anymore.

Re: Mr Anderson & The Pope
Pope was apparently a bitch backstage, in both WWE and TNA so he's at fault for never becoming anything. He was charismatic as fuck and a great mic talker, but that was it. Punk said he's the worst worker he ever had a match with. Even in normal on road videos during his TNA time you could tell that he was a huge asshole, and not in the "I'm an asshole who knows what's best for him and doesn't let anyone else run him over" kind of way but more like the "I'm an arrogant asshole by design yet still feel entitled to something" type of guy.
Anderson just sucks. He's not tall, he's not big, he's not ripped, he's not athletic, he doesn't understand ring psychology even with all 5 moves of his, he doesn't have anything to say and he's not charismatic. If he wasn't in WWE he'd be jobbing to Robbie E right now, one of the worst talents in the whole roster. I'd rather listen and watch Rob Terry or Zema Ion than this phaggot.
