Re: TNA in Canada
There's some overestimation of the market for wrestling in Canada going on in this thread. Sure, it'd be nice if more companies, such as TNA, toured here regularly but we have a small population spread out over a massive country. Once you go beyond Montréal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver (which are not right next door to each other) you start hitting the smaller urban centres. Maybe Edmonton or Ottawa top 1,000,000 in population but that's it. The majority of Canadian cities have fewer than 300,00 people.
I'm from one of these low population cities. It's a long-time, traditional grass roots wrestling community with independent shows and training that's produced WWE talent. Major international sporting events and big names concerts have been held successfully, so people will come for what they know but TNA is drawing from a much smaller recognition pool than say, Bruce Springsteen or U2. While I'd love to see TNA give the place a house or televised show, and there are the proper facilities to do it, I'm not sure they'd make enough to cover the travel costs. Would still be awesome if they'd try, but not a sure thing financially at all and this would be the case for most parts of Canada. It's nothing like touring the UK or sticking close to home base in the southern US.
