No ratings --> No TV deal --> Bankruptcy
At the moment the ratings are 'good enough' for SpikeTV, but if they continue to drop to the level where other SpikeTV programs score better ratings, then there is no reason for Spike to continue to invest in TNA. But as long as TNA scores higher ratings than the other Spike shows everything will be fine.
But ratings definately matter, they determine how willing Spike is to put money in TNA.

Re: How to make TNA better in ratings?
How to make TNA better?
1- Hire a strong marketing team and invest a healthy sum of money to advertise the hell out of the company and it's shows.
2- Continue with a live television format, but start taking TNA on the road more especially for PPVs.
3- Start taking risks with their product.
4- Find a television station that has more notoriety to air TNA shows. Impact could stay on Spike, but add a second live show on another night on another channel.
The biggest problem with TNA is the lack of exposure the company is getting. They have a roster that could easily sell out any Wrestlemania, they have the long term storyline bookings that give shape the their show and they have the skills to go to the next level if they just take chances.

Re: How to make TNA better in ratings?
Baring a seismic shift in how the general public views TNA and pro wrestling in general, I don't see much that can help TNA's ratings, at least in the short term. They can improve their ratings by marketing themselves better, by touring regularly but even then the benefits from those would not be seen for probably a couple years. They're too focused on the short term right now anyway so I don't see that happening.

Re: How to make TNA better in ratings?
More shows on the road would be nice, but I understand that financially, that might be difficult. So I guess they could just start with tidying up the Impact Zone. Although I think they should keep the grittiness, to me that style has become distinctly "TNA". The six-sided ring would be cool too. I think they should just not focus on overtaking the WWE, cuz that's never going to happen. They should focus on being a strong, unique alternative, rather than carbon-copy competition. That's what got TNA where they are in the first place.

Talent/charisma draws. Not size.

Re: How to make TNA better in ratings?
It will take money, which I'm not sure Dixie and co. are willing to spend.
#1 - Impact live every week (get rid of spoilers)
#2 - Impact on the road (IZ kills momentum/energy)
#3 - Shorten the PPV schedule (already dropped 2, need to get down to 6 or 8)
#4 - Market, market, market the product. Commercials, a video game, tons more advertising. Not enough people know TNA even exists.
#5 - Provide a different Production experience from WWE (TNA already doing that a bit with their intros/camera work/backstage skits)
Some money can be saved by getting rid of contracts like Mr. Anderson, RVD, etc.

They're not that bad at what?
Anderson and RVD are two examples of guys that TNA should cut ties with IMMEDIATELY.
Let's start with Anderson. His act is stale. He has lost all muscle, clearly not working out anymore. He makes a TON of money. He is on television once every three weeks, nobody finds him entertaining now. TNA have 5-6 guys waiting in the wings who can get pushed and will be hungrier than he is.
Now, RVD. First of all, RVD sells a lot more merchandise than Anderson so he gets a small benefit of the doubt here. TNA need the merchandising money. The fact is that RVD puts nobody over, is slowing down dramatically with each and every week that passes, has not been entertaining in TNA for 2 years now, and once again... an overpaid, older guy with no motivation left.
Jeff Hardy, a guy I can't stand, is putting in an honest effort and busting his tail right now. Yes, TNA give him more chances than anybody, but he is at least redeeming himself very slowly. The dude is giving quality matches right now and doing the exact opposite of Anderson/RVD.

There is no Ted Turner, so TNA have to take the long road. Get used to it. You can't poach John Cena and go on the road.
