Re: Opinions on those weird Jeff Hardy promos?
I guess I'm definitely in the minority when I say I was pleasantly surprised, especially with the first 'inner monologue'. I would absolutely fall into the category of those that are less than pleased with TNA's recent booking of Hardy, and I normally like most on the forum think his mic work in the past has been somewhere between unbearable and mediocre, but that's why I like this so much.
He's not being written into some corner where he has to hold a microphone and come off as incredibly artificial, cutting promos with this non-existent intensity that makes you scratch your head and wonder why isn't locked away in the X-Division where his inadequacies would be well sheltered.
The biggest problem that I have with it correlates directly with the Dexter comparisons made earlier ITT and why they shouldn't take that same approach. I believe someone wrote that Dexter is ABOUT Dexter, which is why that creative choice works, and Impact isn't ABOUT Hardy. There's the problem; I think that by consistently scripting these short segments where we here 'what Hardy's thinking', it's almost a guarantee that he will dominate the main-event scene for the foreseeable future such that Impact IS about Hardy.
So to sum it up:
Plusses- Takes the mic out of Jeff's hand avoiding a lot of lackluster apathetic and unfocused promos/Comes off as more authentic (he's a fucking weirdo space cadet, and the segments come off as such)
Minuses-Probably means a Hardy-centric main-event scene for at least the next few months if not longer. Looks like TNA wants to make those segments a staple of his character from now on.
