Would he be what he is now - a face TNA World Heavyweight Champion? :jeff

Ultimately, I doubt there'd be much difference. He would have continued to wrestle for those six months he was away and by now he'd probably be Champ, albeit probably still a heel.

That said, without the humiliation and embarrassment of Victory Road, maybe he wouldn't have been shocked into getting his act together and he would have just screwed up at a later date.

Well you wouldn't have had the series of face vs. face main events through the year. It was obvious that they were going to run with Hardy as the heel champion and they didn't have much of a plan B. He probably would have been the main champion (if not one reign, then certainly the mainstay title holder) all the way to Bound for Glory 2011.

Take it as a blessing in disguise. It made the company look like utter trash when their main event ended in a shade over one minute, but that rash decision had to snap Jeff into reality that he needed to clean himself up again. Fuck the prospects of his solid work as a heel (and yeah it was tbhayley) he needed to sort out priorty number one, which was the fact that he needed to get better or else probably rot and die. Harsh, but sometimes you got to be.

Don't know if he'd be a heel or a face at this time. Nobody could guess that. Things have worked out now for Jeff. He's back on top and managed to have his redemption. Good for him. Worst thing here was TNA put a HUGE mark on their company by allowing the main event to turn out that way. That's their fault. Sure, Hardy's too, but he never should have went out there. A makeshift match would have been perfectly acceptable given the circumstances.

i always felt they were going for Hardy vs Styles and LockDown with the whole fortune being "They" . but after the fuck up on iMPACT they played that huge injury angle for AJ ! i think they wanted people to forget about hardy with big moment .

Hardy was heading into a feud with RVD at that point. TNA probably changed the finish of the #1 contenders match once they knew Hardy wasn't in any condition to win the belt on that night so they'd have a 3-way.

TNA made a mistake by not putting Jeff Jarrett into the main event instead that night. It would have made sense for Immortal to pull a bait and switch and they could have had Hardy quietly disappear for a few months before bringing him back. Jarrett was already there doing some segment for his feud with Kurt Angle, so the logical finish would have been Kurt running in and costing Jarrett the title.

The Fortune face turn was actually supposed to happen after Lockdown. It was pretty obvious from the buildup to the turn that it was the Main Event Mafia, not Fortune, but Booker T and Kevin Nash chose to sign with WWE instead. TNA didn't need another "they" to fight Immortal anyway, so they really should have waited until they knew the MEM would agree to return before building up to it.

Maybe TNA would have gone with AJ Styles VS Jeff Hardy at Bound for Glory or maybe Bobby Roode would have lost to Hardy at BFG, Storm would have won the belt in a minute on the following Impact and Roode would turn heel 2 weeks later by hitting Storm with a beer bottle. Maybe Hardy turns face about 6 months later after he finishes his feud with Kurt Angle that culminates in a match at Lockdown that was disappointing because of Angle being hurt going into the match.

Another interesting what-if from 2011 is what if Matt Morgan didn't get injured during the 1st BFG Series? Is it possible they planned on having Morgan win and Roode winning was actually plan B? That would be pretty significant because Beer Money would probably still monopolize the tag belts while Morgan probably would have flopped badly as the champ because he's awful as a face.

1. Immortal wouldn't have died as early as it did
2. Bobby Roode wouldn't have had his dominant, heel title reign as Hardy would be the predominant heel in the title picture
3. Austin Aries likely wouldn't have had the opportunity to elevate to the title scene
4. Bully Ray wouldn't have broken through because, despite Immortal sucking, it was Bully replacing Hardy as their main guy that put him in the ME scene

I could go on and on.

While it sucked for TNA and was a black mark on the company, a lot of positive actually came out of that.

The one BIG negative for me? I actually liked Hardy in that heel role with Immortal.

Because of Hardy screwing up, we got Bully Ray and he became one the best characters ever seen in that company. Also because of Hardy screwing up, Hardy himself (hopefully) saw the wake up call that he truly needed hence what we see in him right now. He would have been a lazy, chubby bastard with no fucks to give in a faction that was already dying at that time. Now, he's a bangable, in shape, motivated bastard with just one slight fuck to give. Another great thing about Hardy screwing up is Matt Hardy being canned.

The negatives turned into positives.
