Re: TNA shouldn't talk about ripping things off

I thought this was going to be one of those threads where TNA's accused of ripping off WWE because they are a wrestling company and they use a 4-sided ring, so I'd say this exceeded my expectations. TNA ripping off TV programs just shows that TNA pays attention to what is popular on TV right now for ideas. That's a good thing. Didn't WWE have a guy doing a pirate gimmick once and then they suddenly dropped the gimmick because Vince hadn't seen the Pirate movies and didn't think people were interested in pirates or that a pirate could be a face?

I don't understand why WWE would want to copy the AJ/Dixie/Claire storyline. That storyline was not well received the first time around. WWE is apparently copying TNA's bad ideas instead of their good ones, so its fine for TNA to mock them for doing that.

Top 5 matches of 2012 so far:
1: Tetsuya Naito VS Kazuchika Okada, NJPW, 3/4 (*****)
2: Austin Aries VS Bobby Roode, TNA, 8/12 (*****)
3: Hirooki Goto VS Hiroshi Tanahashi, NJPW, 4/8 (****3/4)
4: James Storm VS Bobby Roode, TNA, 4/15 (****3/4)
5: Austin Aries VS Bobby Roode, TNA, 7/8 (****3/4)

Gotta love how people outside the wrestling biz are quick to condemn anything.

Hernandez is Ron Simmons, damm!

The reason why we don't get fresh ideas and promotions rising in American Pro Wrestling is because the majority of the community is happy with the same old shit and will reject any chance of change. There is a risk in doing new things, 9 times out of 10, it leads to 50+ pages of bitching and moaning. While business gets turned into a dictatorship and more and more out of touch. Exactly. People also can't separate mockery from ripping off. Just like, for example, the 2-21-11 thing and 3-3-11 thing. It's mockery, and still people INSIST it's a knockoff. Get a grip.

Re: TNA shouldn't talk about ripping things off

But, you're comparing something that fits her example of what she would agree as "ripping off". Why would TNA go out of its way to mock the WWE when Sting wasn't even planned for that in the first place? Taking the idea to use it to hype the return of Sting sounds A LOT better than some petty attempt at "mockery". I think TNA is better than that.

Maybe... but I enjoy when companies talk shit to each other.
WWE still does the occasional hogan cheap shot and TNA is more general like "we are wrestling, they are soap opera" kind of thing.

With RAW's and IMPACT's ratings going down the shitter, a nasty competition could bring the attention of many casual fans. That was one of the main features of the attitude era, you were either on WWF's team or WCW's team.

Re: TNA shouldn't talk about ripping things off

I don't care for the petty shit like that. Never have. That's me.

While I'd side with WCW overall, simply due to it being my preferred style of a company, (southern. not overbooked mayhem) I was always on the fence during the Monday Night Wars. I sat back and enjoyed the goodness both sides gave.

Re: TNA shouldn't talk about ripping things off

Lol at choosing sides, there was plenty of brilliance emanating from both the WWF and WCW during the Monday night wars, at least during 96-99.

It's all good having preferences, even to the point of only enjoying one group, but when you start treating different wrestling companies like they're rival sports teams...fucking hell, that's something special.

Re: TNA shouldn't talk about ripping things off

You know there are people who do that though. Some will only watch WWE and hate TNA. Some will only watch TNA and hate WWE. Then there are the indie guys who will only watch ROH and claim everything else sucks.

I never understood that philosophy.
