Re: Who will be the = to Bobby Roode as the next top good guy / face of TNA?
I agree - Magnus is far superior as a heel. He has a fairly unique heel gimmick of being an intelligent, methodical, calculating heel who has a bit of charm. That is far rarer than the usual "monster" heel, or "thug" heel. It's a decent gimmick and he should be allowed to develop it.
The top faces seem to be AJ, Storm and Hardy. However, AJ needs a bit of a push and they need to be careful Storm doesn't get stuck wallowing in the midcard now the Roode feud is over.
As far as TNA pushing the old guys - as much as I dislike his work I can see why they gave RVD the X title. He's still mega-over with a lot of the casual viewers and is still a big name. Whoever topples him, whether it be Ion or KIng (or some other young guy) will get a nice push out of it.
I can also see why they gave Hardy the belt - again, he's very popular with the casuals, is a big name, and his holding the strap allows Aries to go full heel and then feud with Hardy (and Roode, now Aries is no longer champ). So a number of good feuds can be set up, hopefully.
What I really don't understand is why they took the belt off the WTTCOTW. Okay, Kaz and especially Daniels aren't exactly young guns anymore. But they're must-see TV - every segment they're in is gold. And I can even understand taking the belt off them if TNA were being mercenary and obsessed with age rather than performance, so they decided to give the belt to some younger guys to give them a push. But to give the belts to Chavo and Hernandez? Who are the same age as them, virtually? Who are nowhere near as good, on the mic or in the ring? It just makes no sense to me.
