Because times have changed. And also because I think what works (i.e. what is cool or relevant) and what doesn't in the professional wrestling/sports entertainment business is dictated by WWE. When WWE is kid-friendly, professional wrestling is expected to be the same as well. TNA doesn't have the power to spark a revolution in the way the business works. Having a TV-14 show wouldn't help them gain enough sponsors because wrestling is now expected to be family friendly because that is what WWE is. When WWE was TV-14, it worked because WWE was... well, WWE. They were big and still relevant and they made the adult themes cool. I don't think a casual young wrestling fan today would want to watch TNA because they now expect it to be less edgy and a lot cleaner like WWE. I'm not suggesting TNA should do it because WWE does it. You wanted an answer to your question and I gave one. I personally prefer a clean product because being "edgy" has kind of run its course and I feel maybe it's time to move on.

The problem with WWE is that it's PC. If you want to see how far a PG show can go, turn on NickJr at 10PM (even earlier if you live in the west) when it becomes NickMom. All the shows are PG and they all involve perverted women and remember, this is a channel created for and catering to young kids.

Here's something I heard on this PG show called "MFF" (Mother Friends Forever, which I believe is a play on words regarding the term MILF.) There are 12 women standing around in a bedroom, 4 in the bed discussing women/mother issues and one woman says

"My daughter saw my husband in the bathroom(nude) and she asked me "How come daddy has 2 tongues?" and another women replied "Did you tell her that one was for going to the bathroom and the other was for mommy?"

And that was only 1 out of like 2 dozen or so things I heard, that you wouldn't even hear on WWE.

WWE is banning anything that can be seen as offensive or dangerous in anyway. They made fun of Vickie Guerrerro's weigh and they got in trouble from their sponsors. They made veiled homophobic remarks and they got in trouble from partners. They banned chair shots, blood, choking someone with a rope, neck maneuvers on Morning slam, the punt, at one point the word wrestling etc etc.

It's not the PG that's ruining the WWE, it's the Political correctness and it's not going to change. WWE has to answer to all of their sponsors/partners and in this day and age anything and everything can be seen as offensive.

TNA's product right now is pretty PG anyway, but I am disappointed that they have had to ban some things already because you don't know where it ends and you want TNA to have 100% creative license to do whatever they want. Wrestling is not meant to be censored, it's more an art then a sport. If you banned nudity, or sexism, or anything controversial from art... then art as we know it would cease to exist.

Anyway, PG is not that big a deal if your allowed to use that full PG rating, but once you start submitting too PC, YOU WILL DIE A SLOW DEATH.

P.S. I don't know when it will happen, but it will happen, maybe not 10 years from now, but within 20-100 years I bet you there is a strong movement for the banning of eating meat. Now it probably won't go through, but there will be a lot or turmoil over it and if you think it's impossible, just look at prohibition. And now in new york, sugary drinks are practically being outlawed.

Most episodes of Impact could pass under the PG rating, the "forbidden" lingo is rarely ever beeing used, and blood isn't all that frequent either anymore. TV-14 doesn't make a show automatically more mature, it just has different (less) restrictions than PG. For example no single episode of TNA 2010 could pass as PG, whereas as I already mentioned TNA in 2012 is mostly a PG show with the possibillity to add TV-14 elements as they please. Now which TNA is more mature? Lockbox challenge and Russo swerves vs half-decent storylines and logical booking.

WWE has a monopoly over the wrestling business. Whether it's good or bad, it's a fact.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be edgy. There definitely needs to be an edge, but the adult themes need to be repressed. Kids don't watch wrestling anymore expecting to see women in bra and panties matches or wrestlers throwing each other through tables and blading themselves or saying "I'm gonna kick your a**, you son of a b***h!". That's what kids in the 90's and early 00's used to love. Those "kids" are grown up now and a lot of them have moved on. Trying to relive that era is not necessarily the way to bring those fans back, and even if they try, they won't be very successful at it because they are a lot smaller and a lot less relevant than WWE is.

I'd rather they didn't. Honestly, I'd like a little less PG and a bit more TV-14, please. I'm not 10 years old and if I wanted to plop someone's child in front of a television after bedtime to watch a wrestling show there's always WWE.

I have nothing against 'family entertainment', I'm just not the target for it. There's nothing wrong with aiming a product at different demographics, so I see no reason why TNA should try to make Impact into a clone of whatever WWE is up to. That market is already cornered.

WCW nitro was pg, WWE product is horrible right now because of soap opera writers and no vision besides selling merch to kids.
