Everyone should seriously ask themselves why to sit through RAW when you can get an amusing show like this. Last week was underwhelming at best, this week was one of the best episodes in recent weeks and a good one for sure.

All BfG Series matches where at least good for a TV show. Well, Angle and AJ losing pretty much shocked me, but it's still Samoa Joe and Jeff Hardy who got over, I can live with that. The presentation of the final five with little fireworks was nice as well.

TNA presented their champion as a big deal and not as a corporate goon like last week. Aries looked strong and held a great opening promo. The Aces and Eights angle is still intriguing and has my attention.

The little backstage skit with Hogan, Sting and #WTTCOTW was absolutely awesome and some really funny shit. Sting's lines were hilarious. They had no time this week to build up the tag team division, so they did it that way. It should be Chavo and Super Mex, but let's wait and see. And a big thumbsup for Joseph Park now investigating the Aces and Eights stuff.

ODB squashing Madison Rayne was exactly the way to go. Rayne sells her character very well, but she should just not be one of the top contenders. ODB is the much better wrestler and she deserves a shot sooner or later. She had her last chance for gold in 2010 (not counting the Rayne Open Challenge, where she also squashed Alissa Flash and Roxxi) and it's about time, though Tara will be the one at No Surrender.

Thank god they rejected the crappy Gut Check who impressed absolutely nobody. Joey Ryan showed up again, but they seriously need to hurry up with getting him on the roster.

You guys are paying too much attention to who lower rank prospects are in the group. The identity of the guy who did that doesn't matter. The main thing you should be paying attention to is why he put his mask on AFTER he got in the ring. Perhaps one the leader of A8's was in attendance and you can't be without a mask as a prospect.

And once again, the A8's leave the ring when Bully Ray comes in.

It obviously isn't a Young Buck, unfortunately.

TNA needs to find a way to get them back. I think Young Bucks and Benjamin/Haas was instantly fix the funk that the tag division has been in lately. Who doesn't want to see Young Bucks vs. Daniels/Kaz. Would be awesome!

WGTT would not help the division. They are bland and lack charisma and mic skills. Good in ring workers but not a team that are made for TV. The Bucks would be welcome additions.

Pairing Knox and Gallows after they have been unmasked would float my boat, would be nice to see a big man team. Bring in Generico to pair with Chavo (in place of Hernandez) as a lucha babyface team. Natural Selection (Rickers & Cage) as previously mentioned by others would also be a good addition.

Tonight was fantastic as usual which is a refreshing thing to say about TNA and wrestling in general nowadays.

Aries being the face of the show is really being used, Aces & 8s is being given proper time but not taking away time or importance from the BFG series which continues to deliver the best TV matches in wrestling this year, Hogan/Sting backstage is beyond entertaining along with Daniels/Kaz, more mystery within the Aces & 8s fraction and it's been going on for weeks now while still progressing. I'm glad we saw on LIVE tv Kris Lowe sucked and was straight up awful and they didn't beat around the bush to call out the same things we saw and bluntly said "No. Time to wake up and get over that dream, bro" which quite honestly is real and also showed his backstory wasn't going to get him in the business which quite honestly, alot of wrestlers need to realize.

People are very critical of Gutcheck and TNA as a company but they would be SURPRISED at the wrestlers who are really good and have a good name in the Indies who want that opportunity. Then, adding Joey Ryan's segment continues a slow evolving angle which comes off legit as well because quite honestly, if it were real. He wouldn't be allowed to be in the building each time, he sneaks in when people don't expect it which quite honestly goes against all logic in wrestling storylines today.

It's the little things that matter and TNA is paying attention to detail along with cleaning up their storylines.

Perfect booking, perfect in-ring action, side comedy, etc. Best product in wrestling by far today and tomorrow.

I seriously question why I continue to watch on Monday nights when a quality and entertaining wrestling program is being delivered every Thursday.

Like people are pointing out TNA is very good when it comes to little details, small comments, praising Aries, the camera angle on the mystery guy so we got his face, but still cant pin-point his identity.

Everything just seems to fit on the show, even the corny segement with ODB and EY was funny as hell. Seeing him walking out all suited up carrying the chicken she had been asking for, and she actually ate a piece LOL

Angle/Hardy best match of the night no doubt, great and I'm happy to see Hardy still in the series. Looking forward to Angle and AJ pairing up again.

Glad Kris got no's across the board, that sympathy card doesnt always work. As sad as it was to hear that didnt distract us from his shitty performance. Glad he's gone, seeing Ryan return was fun too.

Seeing Joseph Parks added to the Aces and Eights story is good as I still believe he has something to do with it.

I'm excited for next week.

Impact Wrestling 08/30 Review

Opening Segment - Good start to the show, with Hogan and Sting receiving massive pops. The Bane like character is pretty interesting, and I'm wondering if it might be Samoa Joe or Bully Ray, as he does seem to be quite large. TNA might be throwing a spanner in the works to put everyone off. Whatever they are doing, they are fooling everyone and I hope the reveal is worthwhile. My only gripe with the segment was the very generic promo of Austin Aries. I like the way he goes about things on the stick, but being a face is holding his character back in my opinion. That tweener role was where he really shined but I'm happy to let it go for this week. Thumbs in the middle

James Storm vs RVD - Good match from these two, and some nice booking making RVD look like a total schmuck. His pointing lately has been getting him in a heap of trouble during his matches and I suspect he may be turning heel in the near future. I hope so as his character is quite stale and could do with a change. Storm seems to be getting better working singles matches at a longer duration and should have no problems putting on a good match with Roode at BFG. **1/2

Madison Rayne vs ODB - ODB squash which was fine but the post match events were awesome. Eric Young getting naked while ODB eats chicken and drinks beer. Oh, and that kick up! :D Fun segment which didnt receive as much reaction as I thought. Thumbs in the middle

Daniels and Kaz backstage - HILARIOUS! Daniels call Sting Heath, and loses his appletini in another great segment for the WTTCOTW. What I gathered most from this segment though is Kaz and Daniels are probably going to lose the titles in the near future to free up Daniels to finish the feud with AJ. I hope this isn't the case, as another AJ/Angle and Kaz/Daniels tag team match at BFG would be awesome. Thumbs up

Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles - Not the greatest match from these two but I absolutely loved the storyline. AJ needs the submission win, so continues to go for the arm bar on the injured Joe, which played into the finish magnificently. If these two were given more time, I suspect it would have been great. **1/2

Gut Check Judgement - Why does Bruce Pritchard continue to get boo'd? :D Also, "GUTTTCHHECCKKKKK!" :D Thank god Chris didn't get on the roster, as he was super poor in the ring and the way he answered the questions before hand, he seems so vanilla. More vanilla than Steve Blackman. We are then greeted with Joey Ryan, who throws a drink in Al Snow's face before taking the longroad outta there. Thumbs up for Ryan, Thumbs down for Lewie. Thumbs in the middle

Kurt Angle vs Jeff Hardy - This was OK. Nothing we havent seen before but Kurt is living off dangerously close two counts to add drama to his matches lately. Same routine match after match. He used to use his opponents finishers in the WWE so I wouldn't mind seeing him resort to that as an added way of creating drama. **3/4

Final Segment - This was pretty cool, but we saw it last week and it didn't have the same sort of effect this time around. Aries is again left laying after a flapjack shot. Not sure who did it, but I hope it wasn't a mistake in regards to him forgetting to put his mask on. Thumbs down

Final Thoughts: Good episode, although I found last weeks episode a heap more fun. Average to good matches this week, some solid backstage segments and storyline progression with A&8's, Daniels/AJ and the BFGS makes this the best show going around at the moment. 7/10

Well, great show yet again! They're on a real roll.

Three great matches (or two great matches and a very good match). EY back on my telly box. Joey Ryan feud building nicely - once the guy is officially on the roster I think he'll be great. Developments with the Aces and 8s.

What's not to like?

But I would like to repeat what a few others said while the show was on. They're using Hogan and Sting perfectly now. I've never been a Hogan fan, but since becoming GM he has been fantastic - he's been giving props to all the right guys. His segments have been well-timed (long enough to savour the pop, not so long that it eats up air-time). And his actual work has been great, too. In fact of the whole show my favourite segment (other than the AJ/Joe match and Hardy/Angle match) was the Kazaniels/Sting/Hulk segment. Less than a minute long but all four guys got some nice one-liners in AND it foreshadowed a future match. THAT is how you do backstage segments!

That said, as much as I enjoyed the show, I kind of hope they drop Gut Check once the Joey Ryan thing is done. Or at least, I hope they keep it to house shows and maybe only do it once every couple of months (and have the decision in the same show).

While tonight was great because we all knew Joey Ryan would be there, once this storyline is over I think I'll just find it galling to have these guys eating up time that could be used building the tag and X-Divisions.

I love the Open Fight Night concept, though. And I like the way they could fit the OFN concept in seamlessly with the BFG series, too.

EDITED TO ADD: Just remembered that they recently announced Gut Check UK. Damn, that probably means the concept is here for a while....

#606 ·
I thought it was a really good show. EY/ODB being back on TV was refreshing and great to see and seeing ODB win a match was good too. AJ/Joe was a great TV match and I enjoyed the hell out of it. And seeing Aries get bitched out for a second week in a row made my night for me.

#609 ·
TNA went with the smarks opinion and decided to put a guy on gut check to get a NO. Result? wasted television time with joey ryan saving it a bit.

Did the concept get more prestige with it? also NO.

#614 ·
The idea of the current Aces and Eights being stand ins is wrong at this stage. They are more or less at the end of their run as hidden characters, and the core six are the same guys every single week. Once they unmask it will be the guys without the masks. Who else are they going to find that is over six foot and 350 pounds other than D'Lo?

#617 ·
them botching the BFG "Final 5". AJ went into his match with 50 points, Hardy with 42. AJ loses to Joe and stays at 50, Hardy beats Angle by pinfall to move to 49... yet Hardy is in the final 5 and Styles isn't. If Hardy loses, they REALLY effed themselves in AJ not making it. Haha

Anyone else notice this?

Meh, it was decent, but again nothing more than that.

I do think many of you are over-hyping the shows to be honest, but thats just my opinion. They are decent but hardly groundbreaking like the way *some* of you go on about them (not mentioning any names).

This aces and 8's thing is dragging on way too long without any real progress, and the shows just feel like repeats each week.

6/10, average episode at best.

Again, if it wasn't in the Impact Zone it would probably be a 7-8/10, but the IZ kills the show for me. Its just hard to watch in that crappy soundstage.

Also, too much wrestling. Seriously TNA, the matches are the most boring parts of the show, cut down on the time they are given please. Casual fans do not want wrestling matches. They want what you gave them last week.

- We had a reveal last week.

- The Champ and the roster has been outsmarted 2 weeks in a row.

- Instead of unmasking this week, we had someone put a mask on.

- Just when we thought we would begin to get answers, they changed the questions...

The real progress is there. They just give tiny little bits here and there. It's progressing just fine for my tastes, and most seem to share the opinion. Your issue is that it is not for your taste, however if it progressed at a faster rate, there would be less time to digest things and you wouldn't have the time to be kept guessing. In essence slower pacing is leading to more mystery and intrigue.

what is exacly ground breaking ? cuz i remember those Jan-April shows that you thin is better than the current product to be way worst than that. if you give this a 6/10 what would you give a show from feb-march ? hah ? the only thing that was good back then was bobby roode , point blank. not to mention of you give this a 6/10, what would you rate an episode from 2010 ? i mean , jeez , come on .

Natural Selection > WGTT

Sorry, just dont think the shows are anywhere near as good as some of you are making out. Just my opinion.

To me, they feel like the same show each week with little bits tweaked. Which again has much to do with it being in the IZ.

And yes, I personally enjoyed TNA better back in Jan/Feb when Roode was champion and you had the whole Bully Ray team-up and Storm chasing the belt, with Sting as GM.

To me, that was more entertaining. Aries has not been a hit as champion, I like the guy, but he is just becoming another bland face champion.

Bland face champions dont pick fights while sporting a cast and not medically cleared, or sport the cockiness that Aries character possesses. Aries character is far from bland.

Enjoyed Impact this week, they did a really good job of making the BFG series seem like the most important thing in the company right now.

The Aces and 8s stuff is great and I loved the guy putting a mask on to attack Aries tonight, was a cool different twist. I'm glad they are taking their time and building this thing slowly, very rare in wrestling today and I for one really like it. Interested by Park "investigating", should give some good segments and I mentioned it on another thread I see a possibility of him being involved.

MOTN for me was AJ/Joe although I enjoyed the other 2 BFG series matches, looking forward to seeing what they do next week and what they put together for No Surrender. Also very interested to see what viewership they get this week after last weeks big increase
