Re: Aces & Eights Discussion Thread
My main gripe is that they haven't presented each member in enough detail to the audience. The audience doesn't know them enough to hate them or cheer them.
For example taking a sample of a couple of SOA regulars. Clay was the corrupted vet keen to make one last impact before retiring. Opie and Jax were best-friends, SAMCRO diehards seen as the next leaders with a new direction in mind. Tig was Clay's last line of defense, a master in the dark arts. Each character was engaged in illegality, but the writers have made us care about each character, their motives and insecurities, all of which have led to their respective rise, downfall and redemptions.
On to the Aces and the character detail at times is amateurish. Knux and DOC were supposed to be best friends, yet we are supposed to take their word on it. When have we seen them have heart to heart's?
Why should we care that Knux has voted Anderson instead?
He states it's for the good of the club, but Anderson has never once presented any direction or philosophy for the club to take forward. To often he's seen joking around, yet we supposed to believe he commands respect?
Since being made VP, he's aided Bully, but no other evolution of the character has happened since his promotion.
Brisco and Garrett are supposed to be the future, yet instead of looking meaner they still look the same green kids that came in. Why don't they show segments of them earning new stripes. Hell why are they the same wimps after being patched in?
Regardless of their talent, they remain devoid of personality despite being in the main heel group.
Devon is supposed to enforce discipline, but aside from the occasional beatdown, what has he done to justify his moniker? Is he really a loss when he's failed to protect Bully on multiple occasions?
Everything under the Aces seems forced or lacks substance. There's no organic nature to their relationships, a lack of brotherhood, that should define a group like the Aces. Why will an audience watch a stable that doesn't have enough juice to actively like or dislike?
Mayorga on BJ: Real men fight- maricons roll on ground and wrestle. Boxeo is número UNO! Tell BJ to box me- after I KO him, I will put him not in a body bag but in a condom so he can think that’s where he shud have stayed
Mayorga on facing Vargas: I'm going to give Vargas the chance to cash his last paycheck. I would like to say publicly that Fatty Vargas has always feared me. I conceded to take this fight at 162 pounds because fatty couldn't lose any more weight. I will do Vargas a favor by retiring him in this fight so his family doesn't have to suffer every time he steps in the ring. I'm going to do his wife a favor and not let her cry anymore.
