I don't quite agree with people saying they attacked Angle before he was called out. It took almost 2 minutes before they got the camera to the backstage area where they were already finishing their attack. It could have been that they were waiting there to attack the person they could to make their presence felt at the very start of the show. Or like other illuded, they could have been previously informed that Angle was being called out. That would make a lot of sense for it to be Storm as the revealed leader. Especially considering he gave no comments to what happened. You'd expect for the camera to go back on him standing in the ring, pissed off, then maybe go backstage to check on Angle (like Sting last week), or cut a promo in the ring or backstage after the commercials, fuming over them costing him his opportunity to face Angle on that night. But we never saw or heard of him again on that night, did we? And come to think of it, he kinda has some unfinished business with Angle. He didn't really go on top in their feud. Plus, since that cancelled match would probably take place as soon as possible, it benefits him that Angle will be weakened.
One thing I didn't get, however, popped up to me when Pope made his entrance. The room they were standing in was basically two steps away from the entrance ramp. If Angle had gotten out of there and been attacked on his way to the ring, wouldn't the others have heard what was going on? It appeared Angle was attacked in another part of the backstage area. Why wasn't he in that room with the others where he was supposed to be? Maybe the beating was a set up? We didn't really see much of a beatdown, apart from a few punches and kicks, which didn't appear too hard.
Now that I meantioned Pope there, as I saw him sporting his mask on Impact, it kinda reminded me of Ace's & 8's masks. His whole gimmick fits in with that concept, as well. Plus, he just returned when the storyline began. What was he doing while he was away? Plotting this gang to come into fruition? Does he want revenge for being mistreated and taken off TV? Or maybe he'll be just a secondary leader.
Another thing, Joe said he's always had problems with him. If it's revealed that Joe's kidnappers were Ace's & 8's, this could link well with Pope for being behind it, as he wanted revenge on Joe back then for having a grudge with him so no personal reason, really. Come to think of it, though, those guys let Joe go back then and that's when the Nation of Violence stuff started. So, people on here have a point about that, too. I'll keep that in mind myself.

This gave me an idea accidentally, lol! I'd love for this to happen. Simply put as why:
1) Most importantly, it gives Ion and the entire division credibility. If they're attacking the X-Division champion, they give a shit about the X guys, as well. This instantly puts Ion and all other X competitors over.
2) It further makes them seem like a threat for the entire company by attacking another heel and champion, for that matter. Sure, they could attack all the top card babyfaces they want, on by one, but the thing is, as there aren't a lot of upper card heels, targeting one of them, again I stress a champion at that, further prooves they are a threat for everybody and anybody. The entire company, every division there is.
Speaking of divions, I wouldn't be surprised if this supposed Mickie James / general knockouts frustration thing is further build up to women eventually joining the stable. That'd put the traitor threat in there, as members from the current roster are revealed and possibly new people join in, as the stable seems to expand some more. It started with 3 people. Maybe they were more from the get go, but if stick to the current number for a another couple of weeks or so and then new attacks start occuring, like on Tessmacher, for instance, it'd make for further suspicion on the current roster, as the bigger the group gets, the bigger the chances are that there might be some traitors from within, since it'd be suspicious how so many people manage to sneak in. Plus, I'd make sense for Mickie James to be one of the turns, as she's been hinting a heel turn anyway. Tara also fits in the biker stable and former partners feuds happen all the time, especially whence one go on to become a champion while the other one "fades to obscurity" in the mean time and for Tara it's been just that.
In conclusion, so many chances, huh? That's why I think this makes for a great storyline right now.
