Doing a "talent search" angle where one of the commentators cuts down the clear favorite for stupid reasons, leading up to some kind of invasion angle? That's not just similar, that's a blatant NXT/Nexus rip-off.
Bryan Danielson was already well known in the indy circuit(That's an understatement), whereas Joey Ryan is just simply more entertaining than the last guy on Gut Check.
NXT was an already defined group of people, whereas with Gut Check we have no idea who they are trotting out this week.
Joey Ryan is the favorite now
but the situations are drastically different for defining the favorites. (see both above points)
NXT was a full fledged show, and while they "fought" for a WWE contract, all the wrestlers were already under contract in some capacity. Bringing in Morrison and The Bucks now is much different than people that have been on TV for the last few weeks staging an uprising.
You can't knock an angle before it has even begun because the direction it takes could be different, could be good, and could make for good TV.
